It sounds as if you don't have a ps4 and you just saying that because its coming to PC.

I loved the game, but game of the generation? Not really, God of war was better, Zelda was better, red dead redemption 2 was better, Xenoblades X was better, and Spiderman is on par with Horizon. Personally I even preferred Assassins creed 4 over Horizon.

Shit son, opinions. Outside of Odyssey, your list is garbage. Yay, an opinion.

Its not an opinion to say that exclusives often rank a lot in the most critically acclaimed games of each year. The last 4 GOTY winners have all been exclusive going from the GOTY blog ( Death Stranding, GOW, Zelda, UC4).

Wrong, playstation is destined to succeed no matter what, PS1, ps2, ps3 and ps4 were huge successes. The brand name alone guarantees it, even more next gen because its backwards compatible.

As Pemalite mentioned, remember the Vita?

If the PS5 came out with similar anti-consumer practices and bad PR, expect the same results as to what happened to the XB1 launch. PS2 super successful sales did not stop the 360 from taking away Sony's market share.

The PS2 is considered the best selling console in history yet the 360 came out and halved Sonys Userbase.

The Wii was Nintendos best selling home console followed by there weakest selling in the WiiU.

Just because the PS4 sold so well doesnt mean its an autosuccess for the PS5. Those two points above prove my point.

Xbox is on the surge upwards, your lack of respect for the PS5s competitor is exactly what happen when the PS3 launched against the 360.

The console market is only so big, gamers will have more choices not less. The PS4 did not kill off its competition, it only created it.

Larger Userbase increases by increasing your audience not reducing it.

WiiU, Gamecube, N64, Dreamcast all had exclusives, what happened there?

Larger userbase as in more PS hardware sales.PS has no game selling platform on PC. Removing exclusives will do nothing but reduce hardware sales. It is nonsensical to say removing exclusives somehow leads to more people buying PS5 lol

All those consoles you mention were either unattractive hardware or had little third party support. Neither of these things has ever applied to Playstation so its a silly analogy.

Adding more options for gamers to play there games increases overall profits, you don't need hardware to be successful, ever heard of Steam?

Yes I just proved your point wrong as I mentioned consoles that had better 1st party exclusives yet undersold compared to the competition. People talk up FF7 on PS1 and how well it did yet it wasn't exclusive, it was also available on PC and wasn't made or owned by the platform holder. This is a familiar scene today.

If 1st party exclusives is everything than Nintendo would have dominated the PS1 and PS2 era as Sony's 1st party exclusives weren't even on par. Yes 3rd party is where its at and its exactly what Xbox focuses on, just as much as PS. So competition will eat into the success of the PS4 userbase if Sony isn't careful with there marketing and same can be said for the others as well.

I will say you need a good mixture of everything plus good marketing helps. Look at both the PS2 and PS4, they were era's where Sony's direct competitors both slipped up with the Gamecube and Dreamcast and the XB1 and WiiU. While we are on brand power, the PS3 almost sent Sony bankrupt as well becoming worst console to lose billions overtaking the OG Xbox. The time PS had healthy competition there console struggled to sell majorly and need heavy face lifts to get back in the game.

Since when did Death Stranding and UC4 win GOTY?

The Game Awards say otherwise.

Yeah how convenient, list is shit because those games are not on PC lol I bet you also said horizon was shit until they announced it for PC right? I bet if they port God of war and spiderman to PC then magically the games will be best of generation too lol PC gamers are silly.

? HZD was my game of the gen, completed it and the expansion on PS4. It will be a million times better on PC, you are just upset.

I didn't realise a marketing event became the authority on game quality.

I didn't realize unknown gaming awards were considered legit.

If thats the case than i can pull out tons of games which take away 1 award here and there per year, so we have multiple GOTYs? What a complete mess up.

In many ways a PC gamer and console gamer are two different groups. Millions from either side wouldn’t touch the other just because it isn’t their style. Most know that a console is convenient and hundreds cheaper then investing in a gaming rig.

If Xbox’s exclusives didn’t go to Pc you’d see a few million bump nothing more. MCC on PC sold somewhere from 2-3 million. Better to capitalize on those who aren’t willing to come over to your side. I’m just glad Sony is starting a slow yet slippery slope where their console isn’t the sole destination for their games. To me, their principles are slowly eroding.

That's is not correct, gamers are gamers, period, its 2020 no one is scared of PCs anymore they've become much easier to build. I was on PC until 2006 when I emigrated for work purposes, at the end of this year I'll permanently return home now that I finished paying my house. Just saving for a car.

Ill have a choice as a gamer, build a powerful PC which can replace my MacBook so basically that would cost me nothing as the MacBook is worth a lot of money.

Or buy a PS5 or series X depending on design, power, launch games. Price, With the advantage I already have a pro controller that works on PC.

I'd love a GT7, horizon 2, spiderman 2 etc, but on PC I could play enhanced games from several generations + emulators to improve my switch/wiiU graphics. And several games at very cheap prices. And free online.

Also console games take many years to drop in price back in Portugal, not like here in the UK where I can get a game 50% off after only 6 months. Back in Portugal I've seen PS4 games from 5 years ago still at 70euros (around 80dollars), GTA5 as an example.

The new consoles will be 500 + 130 for a couple games + 150 for a proper controller if my pro controller is not compatible + 50 for online = 830 dollars

PC parts will be better, cheaper and more power efficient come January, I could build a monster gaming PC for 830 dollars which would save me money long term on games and free online and I could go back and play older games like Mass effect trilogy in very high quality graphics.

The biggest deciding factor will be fan noise, this generation I went through 4 PS4s, the launch one was loud, then the destiny model was acceptable, then I got the pro was super loud, then I finally got the 3rd revision with Spiderman, its acceptable.

The xbox X is wonderfully silent, but I doubt the next gen consoles will have the budget for that cooling. On consoles you are stuck to whatever cooling they give you. Most people didn't complain on ps4 so I'm sure they will cheap out on that. I usually do not mind if the fan can not be heard over the headphones.

On PC I get to choose the cooling, thats a huge advantage.

Sony bringing exclusives to the PC is just one more reason to abandon consoles.

Sorry, “gamers are gamers” doesn’t fly. Because that assumes people are the same and don’t have unique preferences. Ever consider millions don’t want to build a PC? That couch gaming is more social or that playing on your living room tv is preferable then being 2 feet away from your Pc monitor? That consoles are always going to be cheaper and more convenient?

Just a few examples of why one wouldn’t touch the other, and I’m sure there’s plenty examples that go for Pc gamers

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

This thread is wild

I don’t know, man. First party console games should stick to their respective console. If I wanna play Sony games I buy a PS4. HZD was made with that console in mind.

What if Nintendo games release on PC. Oh the horror.

I think exclusivity will die this generation and Microsoft started it :(

I am a Nintendo fanatic.

Yeah.. The Vita argument doesn't fly.  Or maybe you think that Apple, for example, has a worthless brand because they have launched multiple failed products in their time? The Playstation brand is built on the home consoles and that has not diminished one bit because of what the Vita did or didn't do. Handhelds are a different beast and that's way their brand didn't work in the other direction. Sony took a stab at it but never ventured far from their bread and butter.

But you're right in that the best thing is to have a good mixture. Sony has that covered and it is also a part of their brand, which explains their continued success. Their biggest problem has been getting in their own way sometimes with questionable decisions.

If they did this with all their games I’d probably skip on PS5 hardware. I only have my PS4 for Sony games and even those I rarely finish.
