Forums - General Discussion - Ever get a scam call?

Daily. "Due to your excellent payment history we can offer you zero percent interest on your Visa and Mastercard accounts." "Your phone service has been cut off." ect ect.

There was an app that would answer the calls for you and try to keep the scammers on the line as long as possible. "oh yeah I'm interested but can you give me a couple minutes the baby is crying. Thanks ... uh huh ... oh that sounds great ... uh huh... oh yeah" RoboKiller article

I've even gotten calls showing they are coming from my own phone. For a while I was getting calls from "Chicago" numbers where they were talking to me in Mandarin. I'm like you're not even trying to scam me with a language I can understand.

What I really wish is the telecoms could figure out a way to prevent caller ID spoofing. Much as I'd like to screw with them I just don't normally have the time.

Yep. I've even gotten calls saying I'm about to be arrested for credit card fraud or some such and have to call back right now, police are on their way lol.

Oh man, I was drinking water while reading this and I started choking up from the laughter, haha.

I got a call once saying I had won some money and "all" I needed to do was to send them my bank account info so they could wire the money. Sadly it was pre-recorded so I didn't get to tell them to fuck off, lol.

It was on the answering machine the first time, so I guess the police found an empty house haha.
They called about 5 more times with that same nonsense, the police must be really slow here.

The most fun we had was with a call supposedly from our bank trying to talk us into changing our mortgage etc. However the guy on the other side sounded a lot like a friend of ours who would be very capable of prank calls. So first we strung him along, then started accusing him of pulling our leg. You're not fooling me, you're such and such. Passing him to my wife who confirmed, yep that's him all right. He kept claiming he wasn't while we were laughing our ass off. The whole call lasted about 20 minutes before we hang up. It wasn't our friend, was a real guy at the bank trying to talk to us about our mortgage lol.

Psshh.. "Ever?" I get them almost on a daily basis..

I got a call saying i was past due on the electricity bill and if i didn't pay immediately they would cut the power that day. The elderly fall for this.

Yeah, being from Europe gets you the privilege of being called from Africa. But I just never answer the phone. Most gets filtered out somewhere somehow though I guess as it doesn’t happen that often.

Been called by "Microsoft" a whole lot in the past, but not since last year. I once got three separate "Microsoft" calls from three different numbers over the course of 30-40 minutes.

Get them everyday but I no longer pick up for unknown numbers. I've had a few good ones in past where I just laughed at them.

Main scams are them pretending to be from IRS (IRS never calls and will send letter) and people faking to be from utility company threatening shut off if not pay some imaginary debt is paid.

The "I'm from Microsoft and we detected a virus on your computer" shtick is pretty common in Europe.
Usually callers from Pakistan/India, and they are not bothered if the person they call doesn't even have a computer like my father...

I got a lot of these for a while (last year or so). They're quite easy to identify since they're talking in English, and I normally don't get any calls in English.

Probably once a month, man I live in Brazil.

We should also include phone companies, net provider and cable companies call scams (they usually offer something and then it is another). And the biggest scam calls I get are from the government asking for my opinion.

This is like asking "do you own a phone"? Everyone gets scam calls all the time. It has gotten much worse in the last couple of years too, as technology makes it easier for scammers to get good phone numbers, and makes it very cheap to call tons of people with robocall.software.
