I was sitting here looking at the numbers and thinking how bad Sony messed up in its homeland. With no big games for the Japanese audience for a long while, how great it would have been to have a Monster Hunter or a Dragon Quest game for the PS3 right now. We see what it has done for the PSP.
I honestly believe that they can and eventually recover some ground in North America with the games that are coming out. GTA IV is a big lost but it still on the console and it will still spike good sales. With Resistance 2, Killzone 2, Madden 09, LBP, MotorStorm 2, and many others they will have a great lineup of games that NA and EU will want to help make up for the lost.
But I think that they losing so many exclusives in Japan that by the time FF13 and GT5 does make it out, it won't even begin to turn the tide enough for PS3 there. Don't get me wrong, it will probably double, even triple the PS3s out there. But by the time that happens, Wii will have pulled far enough ahead that it won't really matter anymore. Especially with the America's economy right now, they need to make the most over in Japan to really clear a good profit. They just don't seem to be able to get developers to do that right now.
So in my opinion, Sony losing MH3 and DQ10 is worst for them then losing exclusive GTA IV. What do you think?
