Forums - Sony Discussion - Poll: Which is worst, Losing exclusive GTA IV or MH3/DQ10

I was sitting here looking at the numbers and thinking how bad Sony messed up in its homeland.  With no big games for the Japanese audience for a long while, how great it would have been to have a Monster Hunter or a Dragon Quest game for the PS3 right now.  We see what it has done for the PSP.

I honestly believe that they can and eventually recover some ground in North America with the games that are coming out.  GTA IV is a big lost but it still on the console and it will still spike good sales.  With Resistance 2, Killzone 2, Madden 09, LBP, MotorStorm 2, and many others they will have a great lineup of games that NA and EU will want to help make up for the lost.

But I think that they losing so many exclusives in Japan that by the time FF13 and GT5 does make it out, it won't even begin to turn the tide enough for PS3 there.  Don't get me wrong, it will probably double, even triple the PS3s out there.  But by the time that happens, Wii will have pulled far enough ahead that it won't really matter anymore.  Especially with the America's economy right now, they need to make the most over in Japan to really clear a good profit.  They just don't seem to be able to get developers to do that right now.

So in my opinion, Sony losing MH3 and DQ10 is worst for them then losing exclusive GTA IV.  What do you think?

I'm just saying...

Agreed.

starcraft - Playing Games = FUN, Talking about Games = SERIOUS

no arguing here , espacially when they didnt lose gta, they lost those other games though. And they will be losing more the way they selling in Japan.

It really depends on how succesful those games end up being, if they do flop then no harm done, but if they become some of the biggest games in japan this gen then for sure it will hurt a lot

GTAIV is hardly the worst, I doubt most fans will care honestly.

MH3 will be a big blow, but would be bigger if it was the PSP losing the franchise.

DQ9 and DQ10 will be huge huge losses though.

The loss of MH3/DQ is worse since at least GTA4 is still available on the PS3. The Monster Hunter series helped bring life back into the PSP so losing it to Nintendo of all people is a setback. I wonder what the rebound is.......

Leatherhat on July 6th, 2012 3pm. Vita sales:"3 mil for COD 2 mil for AC. Maybe more. "  thehusbo on July 6th, 2012 5pm. Vita sales:"5 mil for COD 2.2 mil for AC."

The lost of MH3 and DQ is by far worse than lost the exclusivity of GTAIV.

Losing DQ means the best selling SE game in japan isn't going to be on a sony console. That alone is worse than having a multiplat game that is popular.

Honestly, I don't know.

I certainly agree that this generation will be won or lost in Japan. I've said that before.

However, GTAIV is such a HUGE game that it might have caused a lot of 360 owners to reconsider which console to purchase since it was announced.

So, while I feel MH3's loss as well as DQIX's loss from Sony platforms is pretty significant in Japan, I still thing Sony's actual userbase would be much higher, and PS3 fanboys would be much happier with GTAIV as an exclusive to the PS3.

I don't need your console war.
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor.
You're power hungry, spinnin' stories, and bein' graphics whores.
I don't need your console war.

NO NO, NO NO NO.

Dragon Quest is the biggest non-Nintendo franchise in Japan.

It was the best selling non-Nintendo title on the PS1, PS2, SNES, NES and GB.

DQIX should be the best selling non-Nintendo title in Japan this generation.
