Non UK Europe and Asia is PS territory. Always will be, the brand is too strong. If Series X beats PS5 on power and Lockhart beats it on price you have NA and UK on team Xbox but all that will do is make the PS5 lead smaller.
The only way to win would be to sell a strict Xcloud box for streaming on ones TV. Such a product would be very cheap as it isn’t a full console experience but only what Xcloud offers. This would do wonders in markets Xbox falters in.
But until then, I’m just enjoying Sony being the shy boy while I’m getting my news fix as a Xbox fan looking forward to a fresh gen and Halo Infinite. I mean....I’m surprised I’m even saying this. Sony is the top dog and now they shy away from a PR fight since the VGAs??? |
Power will be irrelevant as long as both do 4K fine.
Both consoles will be more than powerful enough, the more power you get the less advantage, law of diminishing returns. Even a 9TF console with SSD drive will be more than enough. Unless you play on a 120inch screen, you wont see the difference between 1800p and 4K, same as ps4 pro vs xbox X, I have both and barely notice any difference on my 100inch projector, mostly loading times, but that has to do with RAM and drive.
Microsoft cant compete even if they have the cheaper and more powerful model, you need to build a fan base which takes many years, people know for a fact that sony always supports their consoles until the end of the generation and beyond, and people know for a fact that the best Microsoft ever did with 3 console generations was to support heavily on the first 2 or 3 years and they slowly abandon their consoles. Microsoft has the wrong mentality, they want to push sales all at the beginning, and when it doesn't sell as much as they wanted, they abandon the thing, that affects consumer trust in the brand.
We remember the past, and Sony always delivers, they did it in 4 generations so people trust them with a ps5. But why would anyone buy a xbox series X when Xbox was abandoned within 4 years when they announced the next console, and then the 360 was full of hardware issues, and xbox one had forced Kinect and was abandoned within 3 years with major games being cancelled. There's no big games for it for a long time now, they had halo and gears but people are sick of those already. God of war was only 1 game this generation, spiderman was something new, we also had new stuff like Death stranding, Detroit, days gone, bloodborne, Dreams, Horizon zero dawn, Astro bot, and many more new stuff. Not to mention ghost of tsushima. Xbox brand needs new ips, really fast.
People like to have assurance of their investment, and with Sony their investment is guaranteed to be worth it for many years.
If Microsoft plays their cards well next gen, then they will succeed 2 generations from now, they first need to show consumers that they care about the system, and then in 2027 or 2028 they can launch the next console and then that will sell well.
But they have to be able to accept they wont sell much now, and stick with it, continue to support it with exclusives not found anywhere else, support gamers who like single player games, do not focus only on online and services, look at how much last of us 2 will sell, and that doesn't even need online.
Also stick to your promises, they left a sour taste in gamers because of promises like Kinect, power of the cloud, abandoning the backwards compatibility and so on. Stop promising things you cant deliver. Gamers are smarter than you think and we have good memories of the past.
