Forums - Sony Discussion - Sony is going to mess up this Gen

VGChartz front page says so.... it has all 3 consoles listed against one another.

Nintendo says so themselves too.

Nintendo Switch Wiki says so as well : https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nintendo_Switch

"As an eighth-generation console, the Nintendo Switch competes with Microsoft's Xbox One and Sony's PlayStation 4. " - wiki

Wiki isn't a source I use. Can be edited by anyone. However, I'm going to keep in mind all who say this ~ as it means next gen discussions (particularly regarding marketshare) should only involve the XSX/PS5 and Nintendo's next machine.

That used to be true. Wikipedia has been furiously moderated by "article owners" for years. You edit something there that goes against the article owner feelings and you're banned from the site for good.

Anyway, your question about the next gen on VGC is spot on. Will VGC put NSW side by side with next gen consoles?

Another question: since Microsoft is done with generations, will VGC add X Series numbers to X1 numbers?

God bless You.

My Total Sales prediction for PS4 by the end of 2021: 110m+

When PS4 will hit 100m consoles sold: Before Christmas 2019

My post literally said Sony gonna sell more consoles, don’t know what to tell ya bud.

Xbox One let me down, why would I self torture defending a losing console that didn’t “get me”? It wasn’t until backwards compatibility, Xbox X, and Game Pass collectively restored my faith in the brand. The acquisitions of core developers shows me they are on the right track and they got me by the balls, even if they loose again, which they will.

Sorry I’m not the kind of fan that blindly follows when the corporation loses their way (shrugs).

Of course you did, then you procceed to say you like to see Sony supposedly shying away and calling people out about the PS3 to bring some warz here.

You can try to fool newer users but I remember you very well, bud.

Even that video on your channel ;)

What channel, LOL. Please give the link . I want to see his video

Using outdate and region specific reports doesn't prove a point.

The list of best selling games on PS4 is full of PS4 exclusives:
UC4 - 16 million+
TLOU - 12 million+
Spiderman - 13 million+
GOW - 10 million+
HZD - 10 million+
The only third party games that sell more than this on PS4 are the top 1%: GTA, RDR, COD, FIFA

What has happened is Sony has been able to alleviate their liability on third party developers as now more people are buying their consoles for their exclusives. Combine this with brand recognition in Europe, Asia, NA, and you have Sony not only being able to eat into MS's marketshare but also maintain their marketshare.

MS has essentially given up on the traditional console industry because they can't compete and hence is pivoting to services.

Non UK Europe and Asia is PS territory. Always will be, the brand is too strong. If Series X beats PS5 on power and Lockhart beats it on price you have NA and UK on team Xbox but all that will do is make the PS5 lead smaller.

The only way to win would be to sell a strict Xcloud box for streaming on ones TV. Such a product would be very cheap as it isn’t a full console experience but only what Xcloud offers. This would do wonders in markets Xbox falters in.

But until then, I’m just enjoying Sony being the shy boy while I’m getting my news fix as a Xbox fan looking forward to a fresh gen and Halo Infinite. I mean....I’m surprised I’m even saying this. Sony is the top dog and now they shy away from a PR fight since the VGAs???

Its a misconception that UK is xbox land, I've been here since 2006 and the only time I saw xbox dominating here was with the first 3 years of 360, but by the end of the generation ps3 was the console to have.

Sure the difference is not as much as other countries, I'm from Portugal and ps sells at least 10:1 of xbox, just the same as back in the ps2 era.

The 360 was an anomaly because Microsoft launched 1 year earlier, and also the console was much cheaper, people wont care for 100 euros difference but the ps3 was 600 euros, the 360 launched at 300 euros, there was a ps3 at 500 euros with 20gb but it launched later (more than a year after the 360).

Even at double the price I believe ps3 would have outsold 360 at launch if they launched at the same time, and if the price matched, ps3 would have outsold the 360 10:1

With that said, Portugal is not a console market, most gamers I know have a PC, because lets be honest, back then, peoples wages were 500euros, so they couldn't afford 70 euros games. Most if not all gamers I know from Portugal do pirate because people just cant afford games, there's never sales.

And the price back home for games doesn't drop much. Not even close to the UK where I can find games half the price after 3 months.

Furthermore, the minimum wages in the Uk was 1200pounds, games were 45 pounds. So gaming is way more affordable here in the Uk

When I return to Portugal Ill be ordering games from amazon UK as games are often half price or less.

The only card xbox has in Portugal is Forza Horizon, and they blew it, because people will just get that on PC for free, so the only reason Xbox still sold a bit Microsoft just blew it.

Power will be irrelevant as long as both do 4K fine.

Both consoles will be more than powerful enough, the more power you get the less advantage, law of diminishing returns. Even a 9TF console with SSD drive will be more than enough. Unless you play on a 120inch screen, you wont see the difference between 1800p and 4K, same as ps4 pro vs xbox X, I have both and barely notice any difference on my 100inch projector, mostly loading times, but that has to do with RAM and drive.

Microsoft cant compete even if they have the cheaper and more powerful model, you need to build a fan base which takes many years, people know for a fact that sony always supports their consoles until the end of the generation and beyond, and people know for a fact that the best Microsoft ever did with 3 console generations was to support heavily on the first 2 or 3 years and they slowly abandon their consoles. Microsoft has the wrong mentality, they want to push sales all at the beginning, and when it doesn't sell as much as they wanted, they abandon the thing, that affects consumer trust in the brand.

We remember the past, and Sony always delivers, they did it in 4 generations so people trust them with a ps5. But why would anyone buy a xbox series X when Xbox was abandoned within 4 years when they announced the next console, and then the 360 was full of hardware issues, and xbox one had forced Kinect and was abandoned within 3 years with major games being cancelled. There's no big games for it for a long time now, they had halo and gears but people are sick of those already. God of war was only 1 game this generation, spiderman was something new, we also had new stuff like Death stranding, Detroit, days gone, bloodborne, Dreams, Horizon zero dawn, Astro bot, and many more new stuff. Not to mention ghost of tsushima. Xbox brand needs new ips, really fast.

People like to have assurance of their investment, and with Sony their investment is guaranteed to be worth it for many years.

If Microsoft plays their cards well next gen, then they will succeed 2 generations from now, they first need to show consumers that they care about the system, and then in 2027 or 2028 they can launch the next console and then that will sell well.

But they have to be able to accept they wont sell much now, and stick with it, continue to support it with exclusives not found anywhere else, support gamers who like single player games, do not focus only on online and services, look at how much last of us 2 will sell, and that doesn't even need online.

Also stick to your promises, they left a sour taste in gamers because of promises like Kinect, power of the cloud, abandoning the backwards compatibility and so on. Stop promising things you cant deliver. Gamers are smarter than you think and we have good memories of the past.

Sony seems to want to do everything in its power to alienate its consumers. Among other reasons their marketing has been trash for a long while.

Since this thread is based on speculation, I'm going to throw in my 2 cents. I may be wrong, which I've been before; however, I have a feeling the looming recession/depression has a lot to do with Sony's belt tightening. From an economic point of view, it just seems like the right play since they can't splash the cash like Microsoft can.

If you guys are not aware of it, just look up on how the FED has been keeping up the repo-market/stock market in life support by just printing money for the past few months. Interesting times are a coming.

Your OP doesn't have any evidence of anything. You are basically speculating the reason for why they haven't shared much information yet (they basically revealed the same quantity of stuff as MS but earlier except for the form factor) meaning they are going to mess the whole gen. And then you get flustered with the replies, really funny.

God of War is actually over 11m, as of 31/03/19.

it doesn't really feel like the start of a new gen without it

Nintendo is doomed is missing though. No Switchapocalypse, no more games for Switch, Switch can't handle next gen games. Nintendo is safely sitting on the side line enjoying the slowing sales from MS and Sony with likely a slow start for next gen.

ps5 has no games, might as well start now. So far it's still 100% truth :)

Would be one of the first time someone could really say a playstation (or poorstation or pauperstation) have no games, because when they used for PS3 and PS4 that was false =p

The problem is that PS5 is BC so it already have games =p so we need to change to "PS5 have no exclusives".
