Forums - Gaming Discussion - Ocarina of Time vs Final Fantasy 7

I prefer...

Ocarina of Time 105 58.33%

Final Fantasy 7 75 41.67%

Total:180

OOT was my best of the 2.
FF7 pushed me away from the FF franchise ( I didn't even finish it ).
I may try FF7 remake as soon as I have a review devoid of the nostalgia bias.

Which I prefer: Zelda OoT
Which had more impact: Zelda OoT
With that those aren't even the best in the series in my opinion.

FF7. Just a vastly more enjoyable game in my opinion. Visually neither game has really aged that well, but that's pretty much to be expected from any 3D game of that era. In terms of gameplay FF7 holds up much better, whereas later Zelda-games had improved massively on OoT's mechanics, which while revolutionary at the time, have been outdone numerous times since. FF7's materia system could still be implemented into a JRPG releasing today with little to no alterations necessary in my opinion. As far as story goes, that's clearly in FF7's favour, but that's not really a fair comparison because Zelda-games are rarely about the story to a similar extent that Final Fantasy-games are.

I wonder what the results would be if we got to vote between their modern flagship games, FFXV and Botw.

Couldn't get into OoT, maybe i played it too late. But i found the controls clunky and just plain boring. Obviously I'm going for FFVII, not my favorite FF but damn near close.

If you were wondering what people  thought +20 years ago, was reading it yesterday.

It also won best RPG ever back then Zelda games were still considered RPG's.

Wow, I actually expected OoT to be FAR more in the lead. I can actually be satisfied with its 10 vote lead over FFVII lol.

It will always and forever be FFVII. Cloud is just such a better character over Link and for me anyway, MUCH more iconic in design. You can recognize Cloud just by a shadow outline of his figure and sword. FFVII has a far superior musical score, has one of the greatest stories ever told in a game, its world is far more absorbing and interesting (to be honest, Zelda's world to me always seemed rather mellow and boring) and FFVII's visual art aesthetics are superior which aren't fully given justice to in the original PS1 game. The one area I think both are about equal in is gameplay. Zelda OoT is indeed one hell of a game, no arguing there. It's just that with FFVII and everything else it had to offer, it made me care about its overall experience much more. FFVII was just a far more "valuable" experience to me.

FFVII has this style to it that is SO iconic that just the use of its aqua/teal colours is enough to remind me of the game's aesthetic themes. Nothing can ever take away the impact this game had on me. The impact of this game was just absolutely on another level. Before FFVII, every game was just...a game. Heck, even OoT to this day is just a great game to me. FFVII is that and so much more. Those characters were my friends, man...it was crazy to feel this kind of closeness to a video game at the age of 15.

Zelda OoT still feels as the best game ever made for me, and I never played FF7, so no discussion there :P But OoT was the first game in that genre I played, so it could never be a fair comparison anyway.

Ocarina of Time. Gameplay holds up much better, visuals hold up much better, and was straight up a better game when they both released.

Gameplay hasnt aged as well imo, visual neither, nore was it a "straigth up better game".
FF7 beats it in all 3 area's you mentioned imo.

Too many nintendo die hards on this forum. Is the most likely explaination if Ocarina of time wins.

They are both definitely the titans of their era, without a doubt.

Final Fantasy VII simply has a special place in my heart. It's not a perfect game by any means and it's not even the best RPG I've ever played but it just leaves its mark on you after you finish it.

^ this.

Right... if people have different opinions it must be because of bias.  But at least that kind of response lets me know that any attempt at an actual conversation would be pointless.

Even more one sided and nobody would be surprised
