Forums - Sony Discussion - PS4 Dreams Review Thread (88 Metacritic /90 Opencritic Average)

Seems like this game strike gold on critical acclaim, another one under the belt for SEI.

Is this a full $60 game? Because I could have Minecraft for less then $10 on my iPhone for example.

I'll forgive you for not knowing what dreams is but it is incomparable to Minecraft on a phone or even PC unless you have the mpst skilled team modders at your every command. Perhaps not even that, perhaps you would have to helm Mojang and have complete creative control alongside complete control of finances.

__________

I’m aware. It’s on a far more grand scale in terms of realism and possibilities. Dare I say, it’s only limitations are what you can dream

Ultimately it’s still the same genre. You build, you create, you share and you ultimately play within these creations.

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

Not sure if a high score will help this game much. I think the ones that are interested in it has already decided to get it.

If you love creating stuff, then this seems like the game of your Dreams though. Im just not sure it will be a big seller.

High score and marketing can do miracles, let's see if Sony decides to stop being stingy.

I know, but this is a bit of a niche genre. Not sure if many console gamers love to make their own games. If it comes to the PC, then it might find a bigger audience.

If LBP could sell 5M on the concept of make and share, Minecraft 180M, then Dreams can sell at least some decent quantity.

LBP had a SP campaign and the concept of maker games was relatively new. The question is how much did LBP3 sell?

Are we sure Dreams doesn't have campaign? We have RPG Maker for like 20 years =p

Same game but made by different dev doesn't usually go outsell original, and even like that sold 2M.

Not a chance. They don't want games like this being the face of playstation during the year going into the next generation. Infact, I think they don't want games like this at all anymore but that's an assumption, we'll have to see. Yet, Dreams is a bit of an odd case compared to sonething like Concrete Genie in that it has the potential to market itself. The main creators already know about it and the more and better they create without being drown out by a sea of beginner creations the more the marketing blossoms itself. In fact, advertising this game to casuals early on could massively hurt it if by some small chance it happened to gain to great of success. There'd be too much junk for a small team like Mm to curate and so much would be burried. The game would be trashed to all hell en mass and we don't know what resources Mm are working with, perhaps they might not be able to support millions creating, It's gotta be harsh already housing those games with zero load times even with their none polygon tech.

You are making a very wild assumption, even though Sony gives a lot of autonomy to devs if they didn't like this type of game they wouldn't have purchased the dev nor allowed then to put a whole gen time doing it.

If you know what dreams is then you have to be playing dumb, right? The simple difference is spherical but the difference overall is minecraft is a survival game where you place blocks that so happens to allow for some creation in the placement of those blocks and allows for some minor logic, which is massively limited, with some certain blocks. If you mod it, you have a slight amount, more control but the difference is not only the genre, dreams is a game creation tool wrapped in a social media platform and beginner guide to game cration with a side of music, sculpting and 3d art creation. I've mentioned what Mineraft is and it's not even in the same ballpark no matter how much you think the creations you make look real, they are all still blocks. It's playing with legos compared to heading the vonpany Lego and making the Toy. It's a set of pencils compared to an art studio. It's an pond compared the ocean. It's paint by numbers compared to painting from scratch and making the damn paint and canvas yourself.

______

Why did you go into detail when I admitted Dreams does everything on a more grand scale?

But ultimately it’s the same genre. You create, share, and play within them. You make a personal comment again and I’ll tell you what I really think of how this game will do.
