Out of the mainline Mario games it's my least favorite. Although i only played it for an hour or two.

I didn't like the water gun gimmick or whatever the hell it was. It slowed down the gameplay for me. While most Mario games come up with fun game mechanics this one was just terrible and such a pain to use.

I love it, I still prefer Mario 64 and Odyssey and both Galaxies and even Mario 3D.

I have on my wiiU Mario 64, Sunshine, Galaxy 1 and 2, 3D world, New super Mario + Luigi U, and all the Marios from NES, SNES, Gameboy. I also have Odyssey on my Switch.

The best Mario experience I ever had was Mario 64 on a top PC with everything maxed out and better texture packs, played with a xbox 360 controller wirelessly.

But in my opinion the best Nintendo series is Pikmin, maybe because I spend at least 1000 hours on marios already.

I never played this game. The ONLY Mario game I've never played actually. At the time, I thought it was some Mario spinoff. I should've known better. If it got remade, I wouldn't be mad. Hell Windwaker got that treatment. This game should. Either that or Mario 64.

Windwaker and Twilight princess on the WiiU look amazing

And I've seen what could be done with Mario 64, as I played on emulation on top spec PC a few years back and the thing was night and day compared to the n64 version. In fact the N64 graphics are so bad on the point of unplayable for me, because I play on a 120inch screen, so the graphics are really noticeable. Mario sunshine is playable at least, I play it on my WiiU, but I tried Mario 64 on wiiU, looks disgusting on such a big screen. One thing I don't like about sunshine is the controls, unless you get a gamecube controller which had the pressure sensitive trigger for the water tank. On wiiU you use a secondary button, its more difficult, not so intuitive.

Its an interesting scenario. Sunshine is an amazing game and pushed boundaries we rarely saw in video games like the Goop and Water effects. However it did carry the hype from Mario 64 which was almost impossible to live up to.
I did enjoy my full playthrough of the game and would like to see its return.

I love it. I've played it through to 100% several times since release. Never had any issues with controls (I think Mario handles really well) and only minor niggles with the camera. I love the setting and how each level is a different area of the island.

That said, I completely understand some of the criticisms (repetitive missions, blue coin hunt), and there's some Shines that I truly hate getting (eg that watermelon festival, Eely Mouth's Dentist). Overall though, I have loads of fun every time I play it.

I'll be honest, I enjoyed it more than either Galaxy game, in fact it was my favorite Mario game period until Odyssey came along, and it's still close.

I didn't like the idea of a one off style of game for what was supposed to be the killer app of the GCs Mario titles. I think the game would have served well as a secondary title. I knew the mechanics would only serve for one installment and it bothered me. Plus, I didn't enjoy the mechanic anyway. I feel as though Mario games have descended in quality since 64 so there's that too..

I always say mario 64 is the best 3d mario, but only because it came first. the truth is, sunshine is for me by far the best 3d mario game, it gives so much freedom, I can play it over and over again. you can play the game on dolphin with 60 fps, widescreen and hd textures, it alsmost looks better than mario odyssey.
