2.9 million on shelves is overshipped? What about the switch? Over 4 million on shelves.

Wrong number but the switch sells enough to be overshipped like that after holidays (PS4 also had like 4m stock after a holiday quarter while selling less). Curretnly, the ps4 doesn't sell anywhere near enough to justify so much stock and we'll see the difference between sold and shipped getting very small over the next years.

How would you know it was wrong? Nintendo announced over 48 million sold and 52.4 million shipped so thats most likely over 4 million on shelves

Agreed. 10M should be 100% doable this year. 11M-12M if there's a deep price cut. That would put it at ~119M-121M. Hard not to see it shipping another 10M in the 3 years after that.

^ this.

I wouldnt be surprise if this year, because of FF7R, TLoU p2, Cyberpunk 2077, ect the drop off from 2019, wont be that big.
I could see them shipping 13m+ units or so in 2020.

Sony is still selling PS4's at 249$ (atleast going by amazon), and if they just keep that up, they should have a good 2020.

It's too late in the game for software to have a notable affect on hardware sales. If GTA V couldnt stop PS3/360 from having a huge decline in 2013 than these games wont do much to slow down the decline for PS4.

The guy is obviously mad at PlayStation 4's success, that's all. Still I don't understand why there are still people mad at PlayStation's success since PS1, PS2, PS4 are all major success, they should be used to.

The pain is real man.

It pains me to see these kind of people

Some people say that if you deduct the DVD function from the success of the PS2, the success of the PS4 would be higher than that of the PS2. So even if the PS4 doesn't reach 155 million units, the success of the PS4 alone could be more valuable as a standalone console. I think there's something real about it.

Nonsense.

What you can do to say PS4 was more successful than PS2 would be either look at total SW sold (if it cross 1.5B) or profit because PS4 sold for profit on each unit like ever since 2015 while PS2 always sold for loss or break even, and PS4 also had good profits from PSN and more 1st party titles sold.

Would be as simple as looking at the financial, and I done it, PS4 really brought much more money to Sony than PS2. Still PS2 sold much more and that won't change for this gen at least.

Vg chartz has it at 48.8m at the end of 2019. Even if you look at statistically, over 48m is anything from 48.00...1 to 48.9999..., so it's more likely to be under 4m than at or over.

I've been out the last few days without coming to VGC because of work and i'm seeing that Switch now has 19'3M sold to costumers according to VGC in 2019 instead of around 20'5M the last time i saw the numbers, and now i see you saying Nintendo itself said they sold "more than 48M" to consumers. It's that true? If true then, wow, i did not expected that number at all...

You going with vgchartz number? If its closer to 49 million nintendo would and should announced over 48.5 million. Im assuming its under 48.5 million sold.

Yes nintendo announced over 48 million sold by 31st of December 2019. Vgchartz then adjusted down by 1.5 million. Vgchartz still has switch sold 48.8 million by end of December which is most unlikely

Not necessarily, Nintendo has been known to lowball their estimates in the past.

The most infamous example being when they said Wii sold over 3 million in Dec then NPD results came and it ended up being 3.81 million.
