Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Update: The Outer Worlds for Switch launches June 5

I have a question... Pardon any ignorance, but say a game requires a partial download, but some of it is on the cart... When the servers get shut down (I know that is like years away for Switch), will you be able to still play those games that require partial downloads?

If those games don't require always-connected Internet access... Yes.
But if you go to put that cart into another system which doesn't have that extra partial download, you won't be able to play it.

If they only need to trim the file size down by about 5GB or 25% to fit on the 16GB card, I should hope an mandatory install like in Doom or Wolfenstein II won't be necessary.
Heck, you'd think they'd get most of the way there just through lowering the asset resolution which they'll have to do anyway.

Not saying Physical lasts forever.

Like I said before, my Steam games all work like there brand new while my Atari, NES, PS1 and SNES games struggle, some work fine, some have been damaged over the course of time and some clearly don't work at all. I own Warhammer Online collectors edition and that games server has been closed, with the disk or not the game wont work period. So if you are in the business to collect, than physical makes sense but if you are in the business for last ability than choose your poison because both have advantages and disadvantages BUT I say Digital have very little disadvantages than Physical and I say this as a 15 year Steam user.

All my old console games work fine, it's the console itself that has issues, I.E. Failing optical laser in the PS1 or removed the clock capacitor in my OG Xbox.

Nothing lasts forever. Precedent is there for online distribution stores to be shut down... Even those owned by big companies like Games for Windows Live!

Well if you are agreeing with me that nothing lasts forever than what is with the debate?

Secondly, not all game stores shut down, as long as networks like Steam are a thing, I will have access to my games and they do not deteriorate over time. If Steam did decide to fold, I am sure a major corp will pick them up as its too big of a eco to just close down. In saying that, unless the online shops close down, digital media will technically you last forever. < My entire point.

Probably not. About 1/4th of the reason I buy physical gets eliminated when there is an absolutely necessary "patch" or supplemental download. If the game will still run without, no problem.

The other 3/4ths of my reasons for buying physical are having an item to display (which is technically by a code-in-a-box solution), being able to resell if wanted, and freeing up storage on my console.

I hope the delay isn't too long; it'd be nice to still have it in the first half of the year. Granted, I have no idea how long ordering, manufacturing, and shipping a physical Switch release takes. Anybody know anything about that?

Update: The Outer Worlds for Switch will launch on June 5. The game will be available both on a physical cartridge and as a digital download. A day one update is also planned, which could take “up to six gigabytes of space” and improves the overall experience by adding high-resolution textures, various gameplay optimizations, and more.

Shit, I didn't see this thread, as by the time I posted this morning it had been pushed way down the list, my bad.

At any rate, I'm really looking forward to this, it'll likely be my first Switch purchase since Luigi's Mansion 3 back in October.

It's so nice to have a concrete release date to look forward to, for the first time in over 5 months.

Yah . Nice, i have been waiting for this.

Even if that were not the case however, you cannot be mad at this delay. Human safety comes first. A virus outbreak is never a joke.

The virus has been sensationalized heavily by the media though...
