Forums - Gaming Discussion - Here's how the next gen is gonna play out

Subscriptions, subscriptions, subscriptions.

Nintendo - outsell PS4 using 1st party and 'low end' 3rd parties. The $20 subscription is gonna quickly become a $60 subscription. They'll try and use their back catalogue to get to $60 but they may be forced to use more recent software.

Sony - aim for PC gamers. PS5 will be an extremely capable home console. Sony games will appear on PC. Sony will differentiate from the PC experience and use tech to provide a better console experience. Download ANY game pre-release so that it's ready to go. Every game supports cross platform play. Insta-load using SSD, suspend multiple games at the same time, simplicity. etc.

This will be the first time Sony does more to provide a console experience than Nintendo since PS1. They'll teach Nintendo a trick or two. The PS5 will do more than ever this gen to show why the console experience is better than PC.

MS - Swallow everything. They've already started. MS will use XB to push Windows. MS is gonna pretend they don't care about consoles. This is a lie. They know that the only way they have any future against Google and iOS is with the 'cazual' game consumer. XSX will be capable of Windows and will be capable of running the PS games that come to PC.

Hate to see/say it but this site could become irrelevant. Subs are gonna determine the winner not hardware sales. It's gonna be the Netflix/Amazon war while VGC is focussed on measuring box office. Adapt or die. (Please adapt).

Nintendo is gonna win the (traditional) console war ie Switch will sell more than PS4 and 5. Sony will sell less consoles than Nintendo but beat MS. MS will make more cash via subs and will be closer to the winning Netflixish war than Sony or Nintendo.

Everyone will win this gen depending on how you measure it.

Don't Play Stationary 4 ever. Switch!

I doubt the Xbox Series X will play Ps5 games. That would look bad on Sony's part.

What's Sony's alternative?

Try and get the 30m non-Xbox loyalists to buy a loss making PS5 or double their software sales on Windows?

edit:if Sony goes PC and i think they will, it's a flick of the switch for MS to make them appear on that tower thing they call an xbox

XSX will have a Windows option which will allow Sony's PC ports to be played on XB.

Sounds like a big deal but won't mean jack shit in the grand scheme of things.

edit: might win a few console war arguments but will have ~zero effect overall.

Nintendo: Sells a shit ton Switches

Sony: Same as always. Sells a lot of consoles, keeps their exclusives pumping out.

MS: Loses the console war due to mainland Europe and Japan being PS turf, but has more overall active players with Xbox/PC/xcloud combined. Game Pass will have a extremely high attach rate.

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

I hope that the games as a product market continues. I don't really want any more monthly subscriptions. I want to pay once and be left alone.

Streaming isn't going to do anything btw. The tech isn't there. If they can't make a profit/sub based on turn based games there's no chance for CoD/FIFA.

Chess has been played by post for hundreds of years and is/will still be a more popular way to play than streaming.

Streaming can/will work using local hardware like WiiU. I think MS wants to be the daddy box that does it.

PS4 is doubtful depending on what Nintendo does.

PS5 isn't gonna beat PS4.

You're a box officer/dvd buyer. It's the rental market/poorest consumer that will win the day.

Oh I assume you a Nintendo guy. I meant Japan in relation to Xbox vs PS.

I wouldn’t count out Xcloud. It’s only a soft release now in very few countries and it is a few years away from an official roll out. But that just means it won’t be a half assed launch like Stadia. So far early impressions are very positive, even for fast paced games like Halo 5. Def has more potential when using an Xbox to stream on a home TV.
