Forums - General Discussion - Coronavirus (COVID-19) Discussion Thread

Ok, so earlier this week many of you slammed me for my support of Trump's defunding of the WHO, and I spent plenty of time defending my opinion....However evidence is now starting to show that this virus originated in a Chinese government biolab in Wuhan. That lab was investigating coronavirus in bats. Also, the lab had lax safety protocols.

Thus, at some point the virus jumped from a disected bat to an employee, who unknowingly, then left the lab and spread it around Wuhan.

If this is true, then....

1. The WHO was complicit in the Chinese government cover-up.

2. All the nations in the world need to come together and punish the Chinese government....such as...

3. I predict that before the end of this year the IOC will renege the 2022 Winter Olympics from Beijing and also ban Chinese athletes from all Olympic games indefinitely.

Stop it with the conspiracy stuff, it didn't jump from a bat to an employee.

Not bio engineered for sure.

Where they experimenting with Pangolins?

the coronavirus isolated from pangolin is similar at 99% in a specific region of the S protein, which corresponds to the 74 amino acids involved in the ACE (Angiotensin Converting Enzyme 2) receptor binding domain, the one that allows the virus to enter human cells to infect them. By contrast, the virus RaTG13 isolated from bat R. affinis is highly divergent in this specific region (only 77 % of similarity). This means that the coronavirus isolated from pangolin is capable of entering human cells whereas the one isolated from bat R. affinis is not.

Are those sources reliable? Because there's a concensus among scientists that the Virus was not man-made.

Do you own research. I'm not fucking Google. The virus is not man-made.  But, it looks like to jumped from bats to humans in Wuhan, China.

Yes the Chinese need to be ridiculed for what they have done.

But the rest is all conspiracy theory stuff... Which I cannot possibly adhere to unless you have the citations to backup such claims.

I don't know, but the experts that are studying this new virus say it can not have jumped from bats to humans, and vice versa, the strain in humans can not infect bats. A mutation must have happened in an intermediary species, not bat, not human, likely candidate pangolin.

Interesting seeing how things are playing out with these new allegations. Still hard to say who's on the right track with so many different thought's out there right now, but if this were mostly true, then your list may be a little short.

I don't understand how that scenario changes anything ???

Disecting bats is not prohibited, security lvl doesn't have to be high for that either and the chance of a spillover in that environment is vanishingly low, especially one that results in a human to human transmissible disease. The way these come about is by people being exposed to animal viruses millions and millions of times - so (usually) not in a lab where you might disect a few hundred specimen.

China deserves blame for how they clamped down on people trying to warn of this new disease and reacting late to the outbreak (but atleast they were decisive when they did) resulting in containment failing, but this "accidental spillover in a lab" scenario changes precisely nothing!

Apropos "lax safety protocols" - just yesterday the CDC was in the news for their Atlanta lab ignoring the CDCs own safety protocols and producing very early covid-19 test kits in the same facility that analysed/produced synthetic SARS-CoV-2 samples, which led to contamination of equipment and ending in this critically delaying production of more test kits, as the first ones failed. link

And that is a max security lab, which (for example) houses one of only Smallpox samples in the world and ofc other super deadly germs!

Russia now with 6000 infections in a single day. Second highest amount after the US (unless UK numbers increase today).

Getting scary but at least the amount of testing is good.
