There is a rumor going around Resetera and being reported by other websites like Mynintendonews that a proper Paper Mario game is in the works as well as a 2-D Metroid game, both set to be announced and launch this year.

Considering Paper Mario is my favorite video game series of all time you can imagine my excitement. Please share in my joy below and don't ruin the hype train by introducing logical arguments against the rumor.

In favor of this being correct is the fact that apparently the leaker has a pretty good track record.

Well it would fit with my expectations of this year being mostly comprised of AA titles rather than any blockbusters. Tokyo Mirage Sessions, Animal Crossing, Xenoblade, Mystery Dungeon, Paper Mario, 2D Metroid and maybe Bayonetta 3, plus one or two more AA surprises.

A new paper mario and 2d metroid would be amazing. We haven't seen those since the GC/GBA days. Though I do hope metroid is hand drawn 2d. If they go for 2.5d, I would only enjoy the visuals if they put in effort at the level of ori and the blind forest.

I will take those games over most AAA games any day.

2D metroid = meh.
Traditional Paper Mario = WOW! (bout time, those silly sticker paper marios, or platforming ones = meh)

A insanely good paper mario game (something that nintendo hasnt done in forever), could actually be a system seller.

2D metroid wont do anything sales wise imo. Too many indie games, are already at 2D metroid level or better.
Thats just a fart in the wind. It ll mostly go unnoticed imo.  They would need to do a proper 3D prime metroid to get traction.

How rare that I agree with Nu-13.....

Alas, I expect it will just be a Super Metroid remake in the style of Samus Returns, but with a Switch upgrade. Which would still be pretty hype, but exactly how hype will depend just how much effort goes into that Switch upgrade.

If the Paper Mario rumor is true, I feel like that's pretty big. TTYD was probably the best Nintendo produced story...possibly ever. It had the best humor of any Nintendo game too. If they just give the fans what they want here with a return to TTYD style Paper Mario, I think it could sell systems, and become the best selling Paper Mario to date pretty effortlessly.

I hear a lot of people say the Switch will decline soon because it's out of big guns now that Pokemon has released, but things like this make me think they're wrong. If Nintendo pulls a classic Paper Mario game out of their ass for late summer to fall, and a 2D Metroid (probably Super Metroid remake, lets be real) for fall, then combined with Animal Crossing in early spring, Xenoblade remake in late spring, and perhaps Bayonetta 3 in summer, all they'd need is a holiday release for BotW 2 and they'd have the perfect recipe for an even better year than last year. Especially if the new hardware rumors are true. Then with the new hardware, an exclusive Mario Kart 9, exclusive Metroid Prime 4, and exclusive Odyssey sequel would probably be all it needed to keep that momentum going into 2021 and beyond.

An old school Paper Mario would be very welcome. TTYD in particular is incredible - I remember many late nights with that game. Hope it's true.

Most of Int Sys should be either working on a Paper Mario or something like Wario Ware, since most of the studio didn't work on Three Houses, only a handful of key people. As far as dreams with Paper Mario, one with the structure and pacing of 64, the story of Super and the presentation in art direction and music from Sticker and Color Splash would be a perfect mix for me.

As far as 2D Metroid, well some year a rumor about it is going to land and I'll be pretty excited when it happens.
