Forums - Sales Discussion - US: Zelda BOTW and MK8 managed to chart in the top 20 best-selling games of the decade(physical+digital) without digital sales number

I wouldn’t have predicted this before launch

Im surprised. I guess spider man isnt as popular in north America than the rest of the world

The list combines sales of all platforms. That's why there are only multi-platform games on the list, and why games like Super Mario Odyssey aren't present either.

SMO and Smash Ultimate are likely to enter the chart if Digital numbers been added.

Smash ultimate physicals sales alone outsold Spider-man phsyical+digital sales

Spider-man was given away for free in 2018 for every PS4 BF deal. Those free games weren't counted in a Revenue-based chart. While Nintendo Switch games are mostly being sold at a high price and rarely getting a discount and promotion with an exception to MK8D.

Current MSRP of Nintendo Switch AAA titles that were released in 2017 and 2018 vs Playstation titles in those years

NSW - BOTW, SMO, SSBU, Splatoon 2, Pokemon LP/LE, and MK8D = $60 MSRP
PS4 - HZD $20, Spider-man $40, and GOW $25 = Those games were given away for free during BF/holidays deals and promotions.

So bundled games werent counted? Im surprised because both spider man and botw have sold around the same and only botw made it in the chart

Bundled games aren't counted in NPD tracking, heck even Super Mario Odyssey bundled at $360(basically the same price as base Switch $299 + SMO $59) wasn't counted in NPD which I think should've been counted.

So far BOTW sold 16.15m units worldwide vs Spider-man 13.2m units worldwide

Spider man 13.2 as of August of last year. If you include digital both are very close as we all know PlayStation games have a higher digital rate than nintendo

Congrats to both! They made 2017 a wonderful debut year for the Switch!

That includes digital sales.

Sony announced spider man sold 13.2m August of last year. So spider man still havent sold a copy since August of last year?

Did I say that?  Did I say no copy has been sold, physical or digital, since last August?  No.  I said the numbers you were quoting include digital sales.  I said that because you alluded to the notion that they did not include digital sales.

sony announced it sold 13.2m August of last year. He said 13.2m so far so i assumed it doesnt include digital

So much for TLoU selling more than BotW. Just another year or two and the WW scenario will be the same.

TLOU sold more than BOTW currently in unit-based but definitely not in revenue-based. Those free games, discounted, and promotion are definitely inflated those unit numbers.

BOTW(16.15m units sold) made more money than TLOU(20m units sold)

I think BOTW will take the unit sales number as well at the end.

Ok so i just finished looking at both games sales on vgchartz and noticed you got both numbers from vgchartz too. You should have said botw 16.15m as of 30th of september 2019 and spider man 13.2m as of 30th of july 2019. Spider man 2 months behind in sales and with the price cut and bundle during the holidays it should be very close to botw worldwide
