The details of a job posting doesn't necessarily translate to the actual job.

For example it's not uncommon to overstate experience required or give examples of related experience.

So when the posting says "looking for someone with experience in OpenGL, Vulkan, DirectX"

That doesn't mean they are looking for someone with all 3.  And it doesn't mean they are going to use all 3.

Regardless, even one of the 3 translates to some new development, as opposed to nothing new at all.

I'm sure if they launched the PS4 at $299 they would have sold more PS4's, does that make the $399 price a big mistake? No because success ultimately relates to profit and whatever targets they've got in regards to hardware sales, they obviously have a bigger picture in terms of how they actually want to make money in the long term.

That's different. They can launch at $399, see how much they sell and then lower the price to sell to those who did not want to buy at full price and thus win on both fronts.

Whereas if they let an exclusive go, knowing full well that exclusives help a lot to sell a system, they will mathematically lose sales, the price is irrelevant. A PC gamer that could get a PS4 because they really want to try Horizon Zero Dawn may end up not getting the PS4 if they can simply play that game on PC.

I am not super crazy enthused about getting a Switch but I may end up getting one cause I'd love to play Zelda BoTW, Super Mario Odyssey etc. Why? Because I can't play those games on PS4, if I could I would NEVER get a Switch. Nintendo wants to sell Switches therefore Nintendo keeps those games exclusively to the Switch, makes total sense.

Even so, I can totally agree with someone saying: But this way Sony is going to make more money by selling that game to PC gamers. Yes, but they will risk selling less consoles and let me repeat again: Sony clearly said not so long ago that they aim to sell AS MANY PS5's as QUICKLY as possible to as many people as possible and letting exclusives go away like this will DEFINITELY not help towards that goal.

You miss the point. Hardware sale target always fits within a bigger context which is why they never launched the PS4 at $299, they knew they would loose money inspite of selling more physical hardware. If all sony care about is getting hardware into the hand of consumers, the PS5 will be cheap, also the online will be free to give them a competitive edge.... but this is never the sole function of business and inspite of whatever quote you read, I promise you Sony's goal for the next 5 years goes a bit deeper then selling infinite hardware.

Essentially everyone is overreacting with very little grasp of what sonys intentions are here (IF this rumour turns out to be true)

If you dont mind waiting 3 years for the games, and you think its not worth for you to buy a ps5 just buy a PC If you have that linda of money , its not the end of the world.

And we dont even know If his is true.

Not the end of the world? Nothing is the end of the world, except for the end of the world.

Pls, spare me the phrases.

I have "a PC". Always had "a PC" since the early 2000s. Would i need to upgrade if i wanted to play PS5 "exclusives"? Most prbly not, because with this step they'd have to ensure the lowest common denominator will run the games. Which in turn means devs will be restrained by the lowest common denominator. Which will be conventional PC hardware with mechanical hard drive. And that reads as Sony will be no different than MS dragging last gen hardware behind wasting resources who knows for how long instead of uncovering the true potential and take advantage of a new genuine hardware generation.

No, every PC game has minimal specs. If they include a mandatory SSD in the minimal specs, devs aren't restrained by mechanical HDDs anymore.

The share of gamer PCs with SSDs has grown a lot over the last years and SSDs have gotten a lot cheaper. So the hardware base of "SSD gamer PCs" will be big enough for 2020/2021 games, allowing SSDs as mandatory requirements for new AAA games.

If this becomes the norm I might have to stop calling Sony assholes.

Super hyped for this. Out of all PS4 exclusives I wanted to play this one the most, but couldn't.

You don't have a PS4?

I have 2, actually. Though I have yet to figure out how to install a driver for mouse and keyboard or where to get the patch that increases fps and resolution.

Can you install a driver for mouse and keyboard on the Switch? And increase 540p resolution in Witcher 3 to 1080p 60 fps?

Ouch, vivster's butt is going to hurt from this reply.

Legend11 correctly predicted that GTA IV (360+PS3) would outsell SSBB. I was wrong.

This is the future I've always wanted. Every game on every machine. We're not there yet but we're getting there. When games are like movies, music, and TV shows, the industry will be taken to the next level.

I think I confused him with you, does he have a Switch?
