Nope, they didn't have to buy it either.  They chose to, which would be pretty stupid, unless like me they were sure they'd want whatever characters were offered.  And since Corrin was released last time as DLC, it's not like this wasn't foreseeable.

I just woke up and I turned on Youtube expecting some 3rd party thing. WTF is this shit?! ANother fucking FE character? WHO THE FUCK ASKED FOR THIS SHIT?!

I dont get it.

Before the presentation we had 1 chance of getting the character we wanted. (ok, sakurai said we would have more, but I expected it would be something like piranha plant...)
Now, we have 6 chances of having the character we want.
Even for those who didnt want Byleth, or think it shouldnt be on smash, is a win situation.

I will never get this trend of gaming community that having something optional they didnt want (or thing it shouldnt exist) is worse than not having it.

Then... don't buy the DLC? They're out to make money so, if nobody buys it, they'll probably stop releasing Fire Emblem characters as DLC.

I imagined the three fingers/question marks could mean DMC3, Three Houses, No More Heroes 3, or 3 individual character reveals. Although the last one seemed very unlikely.

Did Sakurai say people would be surprised?

Does Nintendo pay licensing fees?  Honestly for a character like Banjo, it seems like Microsoft gains as much or more from him being in Smash than Smash gains from his presence.
