Forums - Sales Discussion - Your sales expectations for 2020

Hello!

What are you expecting how much the consoles will sell this year?

My expectations are:

Switch: 21M

PS4: 8.5M

XBO: 3.1M

PS5: 4.7M

XSX: 3.9M

The last two are coming with an expectation of a worldwide launch in November before or on Black Friday week. If they launch later or staggered then sales numbers would be lower, if they launch earlier then sales would be slightly higher.

Edit: I upped the numbers for XSX and PS5 since I thought PS4 and XBO launch numbers were lower than I thought, and I based their successor's numbers on those.

Lol you guys expecting PS5 doing worse at launch than PS4 did in 2013....(PS4 sold 4'2M to consumers in just a month and a half and XBO did 3'0M in the same timeframe). PS5/XBSX are going to have an even bigger launch than PS4/XBO had, specially PS5, in my opinion. The hype for both consoles during 2020 is going to be very high through the year, and if PS5 launches at 400$ like PS4 did...., well, we'll see records sales again, probably surpassing 5M.

My take:

Switch: Is going to be again around 18-20M but if i have to be precise...., let's say something in the middle, so around..., 19M but i won't be surprised if it reach or surpass 20M again. Without competition during most of the year, Switch is going to dominate sales again this year.

PS4: Well..., if PS3 did 8'5M in 2013, I expect PS4 doing better, just because it's a more popular console and because 1st half of 2020 is nuts, so maybe around 10M sold.

XBO: This console is going to fall hard in 2020, and like I expected, is not going to reach 50 lifetime before its successor appears, so i expect around 2'5-3'0M units sold.

PS5: 5M, like i said earlier, i really think PS5 is going to start even better than PS4 and there's no reason to think otherwise. I think Sony is going to be prepared to make such gigantic launch worldwide. They're going to aim very high with this lauch, i presume, maybe with Japan launching simultanously this time.

XBO: Like PS5, hype for the console is going to be high too, specially in America and UK, and i expect doing better than XBO, even if it's more expensive, so around 3'5M this time, maybe even 4M if it wins in America against PS5.

2020 is going to be a fascinating and historical year, software and hardwarewise. It's going to be fun....

A possible 499$ price point is not out of the question and that could potentially affect sales.

Though I'm with you, PS5 is going to launch higher than the PS4 - Japan launching at the same time this time around seems likely so that alone should boost numbers quite a bit.

NSW: 20M

PS4: 11M

Xbox One: 3.5M

PS5: 4.8M

XSX: 4.0M

I really think that even if PS5 costs 499$, if Sony makes 5M consoles avalaible to sell in 2020, it will sell them all. PS, XB and Nintendo all have their hardcore audience that will buy the new console at launch at any price with any game, and i'm expecting a more global launch for PS5 and XBSX this time than compared to what PS4 and XBO did.

Basically, during launch period (1st month or two), you sell what you are able to ship, so if Sony ships 5-6M during Nov-Dec 2020, i'm pretty sure it will sell 90% of the units. Almost the same can be said of the next Xbox too.

Switch | 18.9m (21m if Switch Pro is released, but i don't think so)
PS4 | 10.2m
XBO | 2.5m

PS5 | 4.1m
XSX | 2.8m

Switch 22M
I think between the New Animal Crossing and hopefully Botw2 as the holiday title, this will be the peak year for the Switch.

PS4 11M
Still very popular and it has several high profile games coming out in the early half of the year.

XB1 2.5M
From everything I have seen Xbox fans are ready to move on.

PS5 4.5M
This number depends highly on when exactly they launch it, but this will be a must-have item this holiday and will sell through whatever stock Sony has available.

XBSeries X 3.2M
Not as popular or well received as PS5, but hardcore Xbox fans will still turn out in force to buy it at launch.

PS5 will do amazing, but PS4 did so partially because of Xbox one being stupid out of the gate and Wii U bombing hard. There was no alternative. Switch is now successful, so even if Xbox isn't going forward PS will lose at least some sales. That being said, Series X looks to be a better launch situation than Xbox One. I think this generation will see all three (including Nintendo's next device) do really well, but none of them will dominate the others. Anothewords, no 100+ million sellers, but all three will be over 60+ million.

Switch: 18m
PS4: 8.5m
XBO: 3.3m
PS5: 4.0n
XSX: 3.5m

Something like this:

Switch - 23m
PS4 - 10m
XB1 - 3m

PS5 & Series X - They will sell almost all of whatever limited supply they produce.
