Forums - Sales Discussion - Nintendo Switch accomplishes the sweep in the USA in 2019

Depends on next gen console launch month which is probably November (Black Friday month), which will be hard to beat and the month after it (December). I think that the only chance for Switch not taking the sweep once again would be if any of the next gen consoles outsell it in December but even if the demand would be high, stock issues will most likely prevent this from happening. Also, US is the most competitive region between PS and Xbox consoles I guess, so that should also help Switch repeating what it's done this year, in 2020 again. My bet is that Switch will do it once again.

It's really only because the PS4 and XB1 at this stage are so old, not that big of a deal in that context. There are not many platforms that launch mid-cycle like that.

Depends when other consoles will be launching. If they launch the last week of november, Switch could come out on top still if Nintendo is aggressive and December it will depends on supply and pricing. December is Nintendo month and rarely do other console sell that much during that period even after launch.

It is certainly possible that they can't duplicate a sweep like this with new consoles, but that's not even guaranteed. PS3/ Xbox 1/ Wii U anyone?

Still 9/12 months dominated, for example, isn't bad by any stretch, especially with more evergreen title successes.

The Democratic Nintendo fan....is that a paradox? I'm fond of one of the more conservative companies in the industry, but I vote Liberally and view myself that way 90% of the time?

Switch sales will not fall off cliff when other systems released.

doesn't mean its going to match the launch months of the 2 actual consoles

It could very well do that. At least in numbers but not in Revenue.

Launch months are always supply constrained, remember PS4 and Xbox One sold roughly 2M each during November and December back in 2013.

Switch will likely sweep next year as well. Hard to imagine, either system outselling the Nintendo during the holidays, especially since they are both coming out and companies usually don't have millions of systems ready at launch.

Over 90% chances or repeating the feat next year (january-october is guaranteed) and decent chance in 2021 too.

You think it has nothing to do with Switch selling better than the peak years of the PS4 and XB1?

No. If Switch had to go head to head against a younger PS4, there's no way it would be able to outsell it for 12 months straight.

Not to mention if there was a PS4 handheld that was being counted towards PS4 sales. Combining two separate markets isn't exactly fair if everyone else is pulling from just one market.

PS Vita remote play was initially introduced as PS3 remote play not PS4. They added the PS4 capability later. So no need to get pedantic about it at all as it's just a last gen feature or a PS4 controller at best.
