Forums - Sony Discussion - Outlandish Rumor: Sony is in talks to purchase Zenimax and all owned studios

Thats waaay to big a buy isnt it?

That said, I'd love to see Sony take over Bethesda Game Studios.

Sometimes new management is all thats needed, to get things back on track,
and I suspect Bethesda is one of those companys that could benefit from it.

Elder Scrolls Online + Fallout 76 = garbage.

Bethasda has lost its way.

Its too focused on all the wrong things, way to focused on penny pinching, and exploiting consumers.
Sony takeing over, and new engine + a belief in single player focused gameing, and not screwing over consumers.
Suddenly Elderscrolls is back and Fallout too, as their ment to be.

You know what this means, Skyrim Super Remaster GOTY edition for the PS5.

Am I the only one that feels like "management change" for Bethesda can only be a good thing?

At some point, things are just so bad, any change is good.
Sony would be a welcome change imo.

This will be an absolutely insane purchase that dwarfs anything Microsoft has done recently. I think this would actually start a buying third party war between Nintendo, Microsoft, and Sony that likes it which would have never seen. Part of me wants it to happen just to see how much the chaos would look like haha

They don't even seem to be that expensive. I'm surprised that MS didn't already try to buy them if they are really only worth a few billions like I just read. You would get huge IPs and big studios for much less as some public gaming companies would cost.

A Bloomberg article from 2016 says they are worth 2.5 billion. Not sure about now but with their problems the last years I guess it won't be a crazy number nowadays.

And spending some billion to purchase a company isn't really something crazy for big public companies.

Doesn't sound too expensive for Sony who need to succeed in the gaming industry since it's so important for them. Sure, the PS5 will be a success even without such a purchase but Sony needs to plan for a future with much less revenue from consoles while still increasing their revenue/profit from gaming.

Not long ago there was also a rumor that Sony was in talks to acquire Take Two, and now this one about Bethesda.. guess when it comes to rumors about Sony and acquisitions, the motto is "go big or go home".

Most likely fake but if true, it would be awesome.

No offense but what is this nonsense? For starters, Bethesda didn't make ESO. Secondly as shitty as Fallout 76 is, it shouldn't outweigh all the other stuff not only Bethesda as a studio has done but the Bethesda publishing brand has done amazing work this gen. For a forum and user who constantly complains about the online aspect of modern publishing, you'd really "love" to see Sony buy a huge company that is in no financial stress whatsoever? A company who makes tons of great single player games? Seems to be conflicting messages. Or is it ok so long as they're exclusive to Playstation?

Quake Champions
Rage 2
Doom
Doom Eternal
Five Wolfenstein games
Dishonored 2
Prey
Evil Within 1 and 2

Among others I'm probably missing. All quality games with meaty SP and no forced MP or "screwing over consumers". Well except Quake, obviously. It's MP.

But you'd "love" to see this all walled off and only available to PS users? Fucking yikes. Would be a bad move for gamers and the industry. At least with the other studios being bought recently, there was already a great almost de facto standard working situation like Insomniac or Playground, or it was a developer clearly in need of financial relief like Ninja Theory or Double Fine.

I don't know how valuable Zenimax is, but I imagine it's very. I don't expect Sony to really be able to afford this without wanting this really badly. That is, this doesn't sound plausible.

I almost wish this sounded plausible though, because Zenimax isn't exactly known for good quality assurance, and they've done a lot to become less liked in the last few years. I can't imagine Sony making the situation worse in either regard.

I would approve of this, because then Sony would take care of budgets and deadlines, while Bethesda in particular could focus on making games instead of their bottom line and what their shareholders want.
