Forums - Gaming Discussion - Your gaming predictions for 2020

Happy New Year guys!

Now that 2020 has arrived, do you have any gaming predictions for this year?...things like, will any upcoming games be delayed, yet again in some cases?...any game you predict will be revealed?...think Sony and MS will have their own events before E3 to officially unveil their next systems and their specs, games, etc?...will Zelda BOTW 2 be Nintendo´s big holiday game or will it be something else?

Some of my predictions:

- Sony will have their own presentation next month to officially reveal the PS5, just like they did in February 2013 with the PS4..incidentally, apparently one of the industry insiders on ResetEra hinted that this might indeed be Sony´s plan

- Bluepoint´s PS5 game is indeed Demons Souls remake and it will be revealed in Sony´s February event

- Insomniac´s first PS5 game will be a new Ratchet and Clank game, also shown next month

- Horizon 2 will be shown either next month or at E3 and it will be released Spring next year

- Halo Infinite will be 343 Industries´s best game yet

- Zelda BOTW 2 will not come this year and Nintendo´s big holiday game will be a new Mario game, maybe a new 2D Mario

Apart from the last one, I guess these are mostly safe predictions

Super Mario Odyssey 2, announced in January for october/November 2020

Here are my predictions:
-Metroid Prime 4 won't release this year, it will either be a 2021 release or it'll be delayed to that year.
-Stadia will close its doors after quite a lot of money lost.
-FFVIIR won't come out this year either.
-Another mainline Pokemon game will be announced, either a Let's Go or a sequel of Sw/Sh. And everyone (including myself) will be pissed of the annualization.
-The 3DS line will end in 2020.

You know it deserves the GOTY.

The Nintendo 3DS line is discontinued in March, just as the fiscal year ends. Switch Deluxe releases on November 6 for $399.99. Its specs are similar to an Xbox One (though maybe slightly weaker). The standard Switch gets its price cut to $249.99, and the Switch Lite gets its price cut to $169.99. Breath of the Wild 2 launches on November 6 as well.
LittleBigPlanet 4 is unveiled for the PlayStation 5 at E3 2020 with a trailer and a release date of Fall 2021.
Marvel's Spider-Man 2 PlayStation 5 is unveiled at E3 2020 with a trailer, though no release year is given.
Star Wars Battlefront III is teased at E3 2020. It is scheduled to release on Windows, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X in Holiday 2021.
PlayStation 5 launches on November 13 for $499.99.
Xbox Series X launches on November 20, with a lower-end model, and higher-end model. The lower end is $449.99 and the higher end model is $599.99.

Lifetime Sales Predictions

PS5: 115 million (was 105 million) Xbox Series S/X: 57 million (was 60 million, then 67 million)

PS4: 120 mil (was 100 then 130 million, then 122 million) Xbox One: 51 mil (was 50 then 55 mil)

3DS: 75.5 mil (was 73, then 77 million)

BotW 2 being Nintendo's big Holiday title this year.

PS5 and XSX being either $600 at launch, very heavily subventionized or weaker than expected.

-Xbox Series will release with 2 SKU's, S and X, priced at $300 discless/$350 disc drive for S and $500 for X. Xbox Series X will be the most powerful next-gen console. Launch games will be Halo Infinite, Forza Motorsport 8, and at least 1 other AAA game (probably 2nd party)

-PS5 will release at $400 with specs in between the two Xbox consoles. Launch games will be Horizon 2, a new Ratchet and Clank, and a next-gen port of Gran Turismo Sport with improved graphics and new tracks and cars.

-Microsoft will announce the following games in 2020: A Fable Reboot developed by Playground Studio 2, a Perfect Dark story driven 3rd person action-adventure reboot, a new 3rd person story driven action-adventure IP by The Initiative, Forza Motorsport 8, State of Decay 3, a 3rd game by Ninja Theory, and the rumored AAA 3D Skyrim like Pillars of Eternity game from Obsidian. All or most of these will be 2021 or later games.

-Microsoft will acquire at least 2 more studios in 2020, including a Japanese studio and a Polish Studio (MS had scouts in Poland recently)

-Sony will announce the following games in 2020: Horizon 2, Spider-Man 2, God of War 5, a new Ratchet and Clank, a new Killzone developed by a 2nd team at Guerilla Games after their expansion in 2018, and a new Uncharted series focused on Nathan daughter, developed by a new 1st party studio designed specifically to handle the Uncharted IP moving forward, now that Naughty Dog focus is on TLOU. Most of these will be 2021 or later releases.

-Sony will acquire Remedy in 2020.

-Nintendo will announce the following in 2020: A new Mario game, a re-reveal of Metroid Prime 4 (which won't release until 2021), Pikmin 4, and either Pokemon Gen 4 remakes or a Pokemon Sword and Shield 3rd version

-Switch Pro will be announced at E3 and release in the Holiday season. It will cost $400 and feature a 1080p screen and specs close to XB1 when docked, higher than a docked regular Switch in handheld mode. Much like New Nintendo 3DS, developers will be allowed to release games that only work on the Switch Pro, but Nintendo's 1st and 2nd party developers will support both systems.

-Neither Switch nor Switch Lite will see a price cut in 2020, but Nintendo will bundle games with them Holiday 2020 for $300 and $200 respectively, instead of charging for bundled games.

-Game of the Year Nominees at the 2020 Game Awards will be: Resident Evil 3 Remake, Cyberpunk 2077, The Last of Us 2, Final Fantasy 7 Remake, Horizon 2, and the new Mario Game I predicted above.

I doubt that will happen. It would make more sense for them to acquire BluePoint than Remedy. I think Remedy values their relationship with Xbox. Then again, Ninja Theory did too...and we've seen what happened with that. Still, I don't think Remedy will be purchased by Sony.

1) The Initiatives AAAA secret game will be unveiled. It is a stunning, massive RPG using landsband characters from all major ips owned by Nintendo, Sony, and Microsoft. This game will be sold on Ps4/5, Xbox One and Series X, and Switch/Switch 2. This will be a bit "screw you" to Google Stadia and will be the game that brings the console companies together to fight off Alphabet and Apple's attempt at a hostile takeover of the industry.
