So, reading that Era thread it seems like a new AMD APU has emerged on that testing site. Seeing alot of speculation that it is the newly redesigned Lockhart/Series S. The GPU seems to be at about 6-7 tflop, with an 8 core/16 thread Zen 2 CPU (same as Series X), and 12 GB of RAM (presumably GDDR6). If true, seems like the specs on Lockhart/Series S will be high enough to aim for 1440p on next-gen games, with no other graphical downgrades compared to Series X besides the lower resolution.

Honestly might go with Lockhart if these specs are true.

Same. I don't have a 4K monitor yet, so what do I need a 4K console for? Would rather save probably $150 compared to buying Series X and put that $150 towards saving to get a 4K monitor.

The 4k console will do super sampling, which will reduce aliasing/stair stepping effects, making images sharp and clear, there are big benefits even if you are only gaming at 1080P or less.

If there is a reduction in Ram capacity, you will likely loose out on texture detail... There may be more (Framerate etc') but those are the immediate reductions you will see first hand.

The Bleeding edge release date is wrong but we didn't know about Bleeding edge until E3 2019 nor did we know the series X specs til a few months ago and this was posted early 2019

This does nothing for me as I have a One X and there would be little point upgrading to a Lockhart. BUT I think it would be good for Xbox more generally - improves the low bar for future Xbox games.

I remember that leak, but I think he just got some lucky guesses on specs. None of those in-negotiation studios he listed were ever announced to be acquired. He was wrong about Bleeding Edge being cross-gen. He was seemingly wrong about KI2 being a launch title, since Iron Galaxy recently shot down KI2 for 2020. As much as I want the leak to be true because of Perfect Dark being listed as a launch title, and the quality of some of the studios that he said MS was negotiating with, I do think it was fake.

We knew NT was working on a mp game but we didnt know the name of it til the day before E3 when it leaked. He either knew about the game or just got lucky with the name.

Lockhart (If it eventuates) should still offer an uptick in visuals if it retains the same base hardware feature set as it's bigger brother, It's not all about flops.

True, but with most AAA developers already using good AA methods these days, and the fact that the native 1440p on Lockhart/S would also provide some super sampling on a 1080p screen, I don't think it's enough of a selling point.

"good" is up for debate.
The Temporal Anti-Aliasing techniques these days are a step up over Morphological that was common during the 7th gen, but Temporal still has some caveats, namely Ghosting and Blurring.

Super Sampling is the best method... But you are right, you will get it from 1440P, but we don't know if Lockhart is a 1440P console or if developers would even bother to target that resolution... But we do know Scarlett will be chasing 4k.

It's true that having 4 GB less RAM than Series X might result in some lower quality textures, but are you really going to see much difference on a 1080p screen? Some difference for sure, but I don't think it will be hugely noticeable unless you're playing on a larger 4K screen.

Yes.
Texture resolution is independent of display resolution.
Granted you can resolve more details with a 4k display, that doesn't mean higher quality textures can't be shown on a 1080P display, we are a long way from photo realism even at 1080P afterall.

I think that 6-7 tflop should be able to handle 1440p without framerate issues, based on the PC 1440p vs 4k benchmarks I've looked at.

Flops themselves are useless.

What we think is pretty irrelevant, I rather deal with known quantities and we need to be realistic that we don't know what Lockhart is, what it is capable of or even if it is a product.

Maybe it's finally time to buy that RF Guerrilla remaster.

In the State of Decay stream they mentioned they had bigger announcements planned for today (yesterday) but were essentially told to wait until next month, starting to sound like an Inside Xbox is coming.

Lol, I was just thinking, how would we feel about them revealing the rest of Series X and Lockhart in an Inside Xbox?

Not good. All the inside Xbox hosts are awful. They're annoying, they're corny, the presentations are cheesy, hell...they even dress terribly too (ya, I know, fashion police...but come on). Anything they present is instantly worse for having been presented by them.
