Yeah, it's a bit worrisome because it was described as more of a re-imagining than a remake in the report. Now maybe that just means that EA is redesigning the gameplay, likely to make the planet maps larger and more open and the combat action RPG rather than the smaller zones and turn based D20 combat of the original games. Though I like KOTOR's D20 combat, I also like action RPG's and would be ok with them modernizing with a change to action RPG combat. Hopefully they don't touch the story or characters though.
The combat was fine for the early 2000's but it hasn't aged well. I'd prefer if a remake / re-imagining be an action RPG. Than again I've never been a big fan of turn-based RPGs...unless it has Pokemon in the title.
Yeah, I definitely don't see EA keeping the D20 combat if they do give us a KOTOR reboot. Turn based RPG's are largely a thing of the past now, outside of Japan, and even Japan moves further and further away from them these days. I would expect a reboot to have Mass Effect like 3rd person shooting for gun characters, and something very similar to Jedi Fallen Order for the melee vibroblade and eventual lightsaber combat, once you get to the Jedi Temple on Dantooine. Would like to see them implement some good Ebon Hawk space combat sections as well if possible.
