Forums - Gaming Discussion - Eurogamer: PS5 and Xbox Series X Spec Leak.

The scale and scope of this latest leak is remarkable and the origin of the new information seems even more far-fetched than the Gonzalo story, leading many to believe that the entire thing may be a work of fiction. However, having looked into the situation and independently verified the source, the overwhelming evidence is that the data does indeed originate from AMD - and hasn't been doctored. We're lacking crucial context for sure but the reasons to doubt the veracity of the leak are somewhat thin on the ground.
From what I can gather, someone at AMD's ASIC validation department used GitHub to store fragments of internal testing data from a range of work-in-progress Team Red projects. The leaks include testing of next-gen desktop and mobile Ryzen APUs along with some deep-dive testing on the PS5 chip, now codenamed Oberon. While the data is not public, it's clear that the GitHub test data has travelled far and wide: further details from the leak mentioned in this article are being discussed at length on ResetEra, for example. The genie is out of the bottle.

Both consoles sound pretty strong but it looks like the Series X will have quite the edge. I could see the series X being more expensive than the PS5 andf the Series S being cheaper than the PS5. Hopefully the Series X isnt more than $500.

$600 for X would be suicide. There’d be no way for them to market it. More powerful than PS5? Sure, but $600. Games look good? Oh but they can be played on the $300-400 Lockhart.

Witchardleaks...

Witchard is a legend. Love his work.

Made a bet with LipeJJ and HylianYoshi that the XB1 will reach 30 million before Wii U reaches 15 million. Loser has to get avatar picked by winner for 6 months (or if I lose, either 6 months avatar control for both Lipe and Hylian, or my patrick avatar comes back forever).

The problem I have with taking this leak for fact is that it is outdated, as DF says. For one, there is no mention of ray-tracing HW in the testing, even though that is confirmed to be there. And two, this actually lines up with a leak on pastebin from early 2019 that stated Sony was originally aiming for a release in 2019, supposedly using beefed up Jaguar cores and a 9.2 Tflops GPU. They got negative feedback from devs, so scrapped it in favor of a 2020 release, which the leaker rightfully claimed was using 8 Zen 2 cores and he said they were now looking to hit 10+Tflops with the GPU. We have heard 10+Tflops from other sources, as well.

As for price, I think we are going to see ~$450 from Sony, while MS shoots for ~$550-$600.

On paper PS5 specs compared to X is much lower than expected. I guess Sony are confident 4K 60fps with those specs ? with the X it seems Microsoft want to get PC gamers onboard and core Xbox gamers from switching to Sony. Though if PS5 can undercut X price by 100$ I think they do not have to worry.

Xbox will be more powerful than PS5 for sure, but the difference will be far less then PS4 to Xbox One (38%) or PS4 Pro to Xbox One X (42%) in terms of Teraflop. PS5 to Xbox X are around 30%. Not include similar bandwidth and faster SSD speed on PS5 , it will be even difficult  to notice even for a hardcore gamer like me. Digital foundry will be very super important on next year.

I also need to address the leak. The info spec are from Github and it's a a very old  from 2018 , probably both already changed the spec or improve , because PS5 are already confirmed to have Ray Tracing and none of the leak mentioned this. So i guess it's just test for very early devkit. So it still not a confirmation.

But if the spec  ended up like above

I can see Xbox X around 500 to 600 USD
PS5 around 400 to 500 USD
Xbox S 300 to 400 USD

Zhuge X from Era estimate that Xbox Series X spec cost around 520 USD and above. Also with having two SKU it will be difficult for Microsoft to produce and manage supply and difficult for Microsoft to lower the price. So i believe Microsoft strategy will go with Xbox S fro price and Xbox X for powerful/Expensives/Super niche.

Sony strategy will be one SKU with targeting balanced of power and price (similar with PS4/PS4 Pro)

Most Playstation gamer will be buy PS5 for sure and probably long time Xbox fans finally will returned to Xbox. I can see a good future for both, the problem is PC gamer , they will just stick to PC (because Xbox games are on PC) and casual gamer will just go to the most popular one A.K.A Playstation or stick to smart phones .

But if Microsoft good at marketing and gamepass really sell, some of them will buy Xbox S as alternative. But that also depend on what Sony might bring to new service. Sony might come to new tactic to counter Xbox game pass .

Another problem is launch title , Microsoft will be ready probably another 3 or 4 on making new ip with their new studios , while Sony are saving a lot to surprise with memorable title and ip and some new ip from Sony famous studios next year.

For me i will stick to PC, Playstation and Switch . But if Microsoft offer a good exclusives on Xbox and not releasing on PC i might consider Xbox X.

I wouldn't buy Series X at $600. Nor would I bother wasting money on the weaker unit even if it was $300. I would firmly just buy a PS5 and wait for a price drop on Xbox Series X so uh yeah, hopefully, MS isn't so stupid as to release a $600 console.

Probably they will not sell at 600 USD but it will be more expensive than PS5 for sure. But if it's true they are confident that Xbox S will be a seller especially with game pass.

There will always be differences. Weather gamers accept it or choose to ignore it. As Games always push the boundaries of these gaming engines, we will continue to see differences. 30% extra power might not sound like much if we are talking current gen games and engines however 30% more is a huge difference when rendering games built from scratch with next gen hardware. 1/3 more power can easily lead to better frame rates and ultra quality textures compared to high or even medium PC settings.

OF course there will always difference, the problem is most people who cares on the diffrence are PC gamer . And they will 100% stick to PC especially if Xbox games are coming to PC. Casual , not so much they will probably more of balance of price/power, games, popularity and brand.

Like I said you need to watch Digital foundry video and zoom in to see the difference of PS4 Pro and Xbox One X with performance different around 42 % , we will see more videos comparing  PS5 and and Xbox X , and will be even more difficult to notice. But casual they don't care, even if they care and understand , it will be too difficult for them to notice when playing games. What i can see is PS5 will be the standard quality and Xbox X will be slightly better . Both will be great, but Xbox X will  slightly have more graphic  features (visual effect, like slightly better texture, or shadow perhaps depend on the developer choices)  of course.
