Forums - Sales Discussion - Global Hardware 21 December 2019

Next month, I'll get my Xbox One S (full digital) 1To. Then, I'll have every single console (well, not every model, of course) in the current chart: PS4 - PS Vita - Wii U - Switch - 3DS - XBox One.

There was a deal: 99.99€ for a Xbox One S (full digital) with 3 (useless online) games (Minecraft, Sea of Thieves and Fortnite. I don't understand the last one, I thought it was free). I wanted a small computer in my bedroom, but this Xbox will do the job.

fornite is free but the cosmetics and season passes are not.

Yep, I'm really curious for what 2020 has in store. They are starting out strong with Animal Crossing in March but other than that we dont know of any major games coming next year.

Might've passed 20 million for calendar 2019 already, with the numbers arriving this week.

So much for that FY forecast of 18 million, though after last year I can see why they wanted to keep it conservative. I suspect they'll raise their FY forecast to 20 million in late January with the next quarterly report.

I still think PS4 can outsell Gameboy in 2020.
2019 didn't have any killer exclusives or big games like RDR2 so it sold 14 millions, right?

But if they were to permanently lower the price to $199 and sell lots of FFVII, TLOU 2 and Ghost of Tsushima bundles along with new Assasssin's Creed and other games they could sell 13.5 millions (a bit less than 2019) and be at 119 millions by December 30th 2020, just above Gameboy.

Happy New Year 2020 everyone!

No, I don't get how anybody thinks a $100 price cut in the year they start pushing new hardware makes any sense whatsoever.

The Slim & Pro models released over 3 years ago and neither have released a permanent price cut, Sony clearly has no desire to drop them down so significantly, at best we will see a $50 cut for each.

Just like every year, 2019 had a steady flow of big games throughout the year

Q1-Ace Combat 7, Kingdom Hearts 3, Resident Evil 2, Apex Legends, Far Cry: New Dawn, Anthem, Devil May Cry 5, The Division 2, Sekiro, MLB The Show, Metro Exodus, Jump Force

Q2-Days Gone, World War Z, Mortal Kombat 11, Rage 2, Team Sonic Racing, Crash Team Racing, Judgement

Q3-Wolfenstein: Youngblood, Madden, FIFA, NBA 2K, Borderlands 3, Man of Medan, Control, Monster Hunter World: Iceborne

Q4-Destiny 2: Shadowkeep, Ghost Recon Breakpoint, COD: Modern Warfare, The Outer Worlds, Death Stranding, Need for Speed: Heat, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order

Those games you listed will obviously be huge hits but the audience for those titles are already on PS4 so diminishing returns will be in effect and their system selling power is reduced.

There is pretty much nothing at this point that can prevent 2020 from having a notable decline, it peaked in 2017 then had a ~10 decline in 2018 followed by over 20% decline in 2019. With an install base over 100 million and next gen around the corner a 30% or more decline is almost gauranteed.

It's possible, but it doesn't really matter if it happens this year or not as it will get there in the end regardless. PS4 ain't gonna stop selling instantly the moment PS5 hits shelves. Even the PS3 sold 7 million after the PS4 came out.

So what? 11 millions?

Yeah something along those lines, 9-11 million I would say.
