Forums - Gaming Discussion - Your game of the decade (2010-2019)

Easily Nier Automata. The game has everything I could want in a game and excels beyond what I expected it to. One of the greatest stories ever told in a game (or anywhere for that matter), god tier sound track, gameplay about as good and clean as it gets, and game design that constantly keeps you on your toes with its different genres and perspectives. Different perspectives that reflect back at the game's story; which a large part of it is about.

Some honorable mentions: FFXV, KH3 and RE2.

Witcher 3 hands down. Runner ups: God of War 4 and Red Dead Redemption(s)

Red Dead Redemption 2.

Followed by The Witcher 3 and Red Dead Redemption. Sea of Thieves also deserves a mention when it comes to online gaming.

Pulling from samples I wrote for another site:

Rocket League - ridiculously fun multiplayer/online, thrilling gameplay, easy to play and tough to master. Love the competitive aspect to it. Basically, there's a reason it's one of the biggest eSports games out there.

Overwatch - love the hero-based shooter concept, and how each hero is distinct. Again, it's accessible but subtly very nuanced. Feverishly addictive multiplayer. It's probably officially taken the mantle from Gears as far as hours logged into a video game thanks to it's online mode. Must have put 600-700 hours into it.

Minecraft - Played a TON of the game in its alpha stage, and was even a blast then. Love how simple it is on the exterior but also how rich and vast in scope it is. Litterally endless replay value. Love how you're basically in complete control, a quality I highly value in games.

Skyrim - the standard of WRPGS (Witcher 3 may take that title but I've barely played it). Even now it holds up. Very rewarding gameplay all around. Again, love the open-world aspect in which you can largey carve your own path and write your own story. A trait lacking with many modern games.

Zelda: Breath of the Wild - simply put, my favorite Zelda game since the original. Captures the open-ended, exploration aspects of that classic Zelda while spruced up with modern sensibilities. Love how subtly complex the physics/game engine is and the combat is super satisfying. Pretty art style that suits a fantasy series like Zelda well.

Borderlands 2 - Never played a game so fun in terms of solo AND co-op. Doesn't really sacrifice on either front. The environments are awesome, the weapons are insane, the characters are memorable (Handsome Jack and Tiny Tina are two of my favorite characters in gaming), great sense of humor, and again, love the art style. Just feels great to play. Open-ended and in-depth.

Honorable mentions: Xenoblade Chronicles 2, Mario Odyssey, Gears 3, Terraria

For sure it's Zelda breath of the wild, Xenoblade X runner up

Well, I've spent over 4000h on Rocket League, a game released in July 2015. I think it's a fair estimate that I've played more Rocket League in this decade than every other game I've played combined. So yeah, Rocket League.

Special shoutout to Elex who had at least a good try at giving me a new Gothic game this decade. Can't wait for the sequel.

And another shoutout to DQ11, FFXIII Saga and WoFF for keeping S Tier JRPGs alive.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

For the last 10 years, I felt that my gaming experiences had changed. The biggest factor is time. The other factor is that i actually got a bit tired and didn't address all the concepts anymore. While I still loved GTA 3, I had played GTA 5 for a maximum of 3 hours. While I was a big Hitman fan, I didn't even play Hitman 2. I really liked Red Dead Redemption 1 and 2, but somewhere I lacked something. My most played game of the 2010s is World of Tanks. It has easy access, clear gameplay and is not overloaded.

Anyway. Of the games whose game design impressed and motivated me the most, because they went a bit further and tried something new, I would call The Last of Us, God of War and Death Stranding.

I would like the games to be more confident for the new generation. For example, the Nemesis system from Shadow of Mordor. Or the narrative maturity of God of War. Or more topics like This War is Mine.

How in the holy name of hell can you play 4000 hours of Rocket league. I thought 2500 hours of FF14 was insane and a good third of that is AFK time as it's an MMO and in four years playing that game took a toll on my mind. I can't imagine 4 years of rocket league at double that pace, has your brain not turned to mash potato?

Sorry but how is it hard to see someone putting in those hours if they enjoy the game? I've seen people put in those kind of hours in games like Monster Hunter and PSO.

Probably Undertale. It's a game that will always have a special place in my heart.

Xenoblade Chronicles, Hollow Knight and Dragon Quest XI S are also pretty close...

Breath of the Wild

Super Mario Galaxy 2 is second, but it's not even that close.
