Forums - Gaming Discussion - 2080 Max Q stronger than XSX/PS5 (Allegedly)

Wow, a $2500 gaming laptop can compete with a $500 console.. colour me surprised......

I'm willing to bet, that games on the PS5/Xb2 will look better than anything this laptop model can run.

Maybe, depending on a couple of factors. While next gen consoles are rumored to be running 2 more cores in their procs than this Notebook, said cores will be slower (the Notebook ones will hit 4.10GHz @ max turbo speed). And that's if you could compare them 1:1.

Some of those turbo numbers are for like 0,5-1 secound... on 1 or 2 cores (Intel always go overboard with these numbers, esp on laptop units).
Meh. Sustained speeds I bet the limitations to cooling a laptop will get in the way.

And the consoles coded to metal, will edge out any advantage this laptop might have.

Does the "coded to metal" buzzword make a difference, though? I mean, current gen consoles are outperformed in multiplats by contemporary lesser, smaller GPUs like the 260X or the 750 Ti.

And don't go on thinking the 3.2 GHz or whatever the next gen consoles will bring is anything but boost clocks as well. The core clock for the Gonzalo chip being tested in Taiwan is reported as being half of that, or 1.6 GHz, after all.

A gpu clock of 1600MHz (16Gbit/s ram) is considerably higher than the 1100MHz (12Gbit/s ram) of 2080 Max Q. Also if you actually placed this laptop on your lap, you'd get serious burn marks on your legs.....

Anybody who thinks a 80W laptop outperforms a 250-300W console is a dreamer (no matter what the guy in his leather jacket is telling you).

...says random internet guy who believes every internet rumor of allegedly insiders like "Proelite" and "Oberon" and anonymous sources, but denies the statements of Nvidia's CEO (one of the most important corporations when it comes to GPUs).

It's good that you read my posts, I did indeed get off track for a few days because of that dude on beyond3d, but now I'm back on track. We have gone from 10TF+ for both console to 12TF+. We now have Eurogamer, Windowscentral, Tom Warren and the verified insider all saying Xbox series X is indeed 12TF, that is Navi TF. PS5 will be stronger but I'm expecting Microsoft is just waiting for Sony to reveal their numbers then Microsoft will up the clock-speed to beat PS5.

Geforce 2080 is 20% faster than vanilla 5700xt, and that is a 9.6TF card so 12TF is enough. Jensen says a lot of things, he has apparently been saying the same thing now for 2+ years.

Ahhh next year will be great,

No new Nvidia graphic gaming gpus and both consoles will be above desktop geforce 2080 in gaming performance.

Actually, the 3000 series will debut next year and you have no idea if either console will be above a 2080 (I'm betting they, perhaps, match it, but they'll most likely contain console variants of the 2070, which will be a considerable upgrade over the 1060 equivalent that is the Xbox One X's GPU).

But, we've discussed this type of thing already. Not sure why you keep doing this to yourself. :P

You should read twitter, no 3000 series next year, only a proffessional card on tsmc 7nm euv and geforce 2080 ti super to counter Navi 21. Where the console will land next year we shall see, I think they both will beat geforce 2080.

Why do that when a good few more sources say otherwise? It's something you should learn — always do more research. Your posts are simply you telling yourself what you want to happen.

Edit: But, let's humor the idea and say Ampere skips 2020, that still doesn't instantly mean the consoles will have GPUs that match a 2080, let alone 'beat' it.

I didn't know you had sources saying Nvidia will release the 3000 series next year, how can you not think next-gen consoles will beat geforce 2080? You have Eurogamer, Tom Warren, verified insider and windows central saying Xbox series X is 12TF. Jason Schreier saying both consoles matching geforce 2080 and 3 people saying Ps5 is above Xbox series X but as I said before I expect Microsoft is just w8ing for Sony to reveal their number than Microsoft will beat it.

About the nvidias gpu, they were planning to launch their professional gpu on tsmc 7nm Euv and the gaming series (3000) on samsung 7nm euv, but the yields are so bad at samsung they were forced to switch back to Tsmc and are now delayed, not "skipped". You can read more about it here.

I'm just making a fun prediction based on twitter that we will see no gaming gpus from nvidia next year except geforce 2080 ti SUPER to counter Navi 21.

2080 max q is about 10% inferior to a regular gtx 1080, so i highly doubt it would be the benchmark for the next navi line.
besides j. huang isn't really an impartial party here

Dosent the 5700xt get pretty close to the rtx2080? I think I have seen some test in witch it got between 10-20%. If the 12tf of the xbox turns out true then it will leave the 2080 behind.

It takes genuine talent to see greatness in yourself despite your absence of genuine talent.

What it all comes down to is: If you shell out enough money, you will always get the most power and best grfxxx on a PC. Consoles will have the better value, sure. But if you don't care about money and just want the best of the best, PC was, is and always will be your one and only option.

Can we all agree with that?

(oh, and it's also cool that you can get a PC with crazy power for mobile in the form of a notebook. I, mean, come on, that's pretty cool, isn't it?)

Official member of VGC's Nintendo family, approved by the one and only RolStoppable. I feel honored.

Jason hwang are jealous to AMD that they dont dont provide GPU for Google, Apple, Sony and Microsoft and loose billion dollar LOL

6 teraflop Max Q is even far lower than 12 teraflop GCN and on Vega 64, let alone 7 teraflop of RTX 2060 ti or 8 teraflop of RDNA 1 (Navi 10)

PS5 and Xbox will be 9 teraflop of RDNA arc or above with price range between 399 to 499 on par with RTX 2070 to RTX 2070 Super , and the laptop he mentioned will be 2500 USD LOL.

Jason Hwang is just doing his PR stuff that will bite him in 20th February
