My movie theater has more jumanji showings than star wars recently

That's probably the norm, now. Despite opening a week sooner than ROS, Jumanji is in 321 more theaters than it.

Proof that ROS should have released a week earlier

I wonder what the net profit of this movie will be when all its said and done. Sales taxes and cinema shares already take close to 60% of its Box Office Gross at the very least, and they you have all the little P&A costs to take into account on top of a $275 million budget. If Disney didn't own Buena Vista and the distribution rights, that would likely come in below its budget, but as it is, to profit something like 60 - 75% of its budget isn't bad.

If ROS continues to drop, it may only match RO's WW total. As I've read someone else put it, another $1B disappointment.

Out of curiosity, what was Disney expecting for The Rise of Skywalker's WW total?

I cant see them expecting anything less than TLJ. This had so much fan service and it was wrapping up a 40 year 9 movie saga.

Having a little fun at my expense, are we? Could you maybe, y'know, not grossly mischaracterize my argument? I know certain people here that are still holding grudges over TLJ can't be convinced that they're ever in error, but I thought you could. I gave you plenty of examples of data backing up my argument. I even offered to show my work, an offer you ignored. Unlike some people, I am willing to back up my claims with real evidence instead of expecting others to take me solely on my word and/or resorting to unfounded conjecture, bad-faith misrepresentations of the data, and just plain made-up bullshit.

Would it be safe to say that you've already made up your mind, and that I'd be wasting my time trying to show you any data that supports my argument? If not, then please, show some genuine willingness to look at the data. I'll even put it all together for you to save you the trouble. But if you don't really care to hear anything I have to say, and all you care to do is just insult me because you've dismissed my argument out of hand and think it's only worth poking fun at, let me know. I have other things to attend to and spending several hours collecting data and creating and formatting charts for this discussion would be a serious detour.

Can't comment on the user in question, but there are definitely plenty of people like this on VGC, nevermind the wider internet.

Its essentially anything (they perceive is bad) is because 'zomg stoopid Disney marysue SJW wankers' and anything (they're forced to acknowledge as) good is just a hangover from the awesomeness of the pre-Disney days. Generally, these people are not actually fans of Star Wars, but are pushing an agenda entirely separate to this great, but entirely fictional franchise.

Deep breath, move on, talk to people who are reasonable instead.

I'm sorry man, you're great at collecting data and making graphs but the conclusions you make from them arent always accurate. Things like denying that Kinect was the main factor in late 360 sales and this argument are just plain silly.

Your data shows that all movies take a hit after New Years, nobody is denying that that particular week has a big drop so look at the weeks beyond that. Its having bigger WoW drops and losing theaters at a faster pace than most other movies currently in theaters, even when compared to movies that released before it to the point where Jumanji is now ahead of it.

If people wanted to see the movie than they would see it, either in the weeks before New Years week or in the weeks after it.

Yeah I'm not sure why he even brought that up because I have literally never even stated my feelings towards TLJ in this thread or anytime on this site to my knowledge.

That's if the budget was actually $275M.  The Last Jedi's budget was $317M.  There's no way that with all of the reshoots, this film came in under $300M.  My guess would be either matching or going even higher than TLJ's budget.  There's no doubt that they will make a profit on this film, but it won't be by a lot.  It's the reason they are done with trilogies for SW, despite having announced two separate trilogies in 2017-2018.

We'll probably never know officially.  But, like @DarthJarvis stated, definitely not below TLJ.  I'm pretty sure they were confident in it passing TLJ, since that was the consensus on how the trilogies perform in the SW trilogy, and they made sure to throw in a bunch of fan service.

Of course, he also forgets to mention that dislike of TLJ and/or ROS runs through the complete political spectrum.  Can't pin it all on those "women-hating alt-righters."  Well, unless they also want to admit that there are much more of them out there than they thought.

Amazing. Every word of what you just said was wrong.

I guess Mandalorian is carrying the one flag of hope for Star Wars at this point. I think they need to take a long break on the films and at MOST just focus on that show.

Mauler tore apart this film even a bit more than TLJ I'd say haha.

This movie was definitely uber stupid. But at least it felt somewhat fun again. VS Last Jedi which was just stupid, while trying to be dark and edgy.. though it was just bleh, dull and gave me a "bad feeling" watching it, is the only way I can describe it. Like Johnson was just pissing on the lore and trolling the fans. Abrams seems to at least have a (mild) respect for the franchise and its audience, I just also think he's just not that capable, at least not as a writer for Star Wars.

Still, overall my excitement for the series has essentially been killed following the new trilogy, and I suspect it's the same for many, hence the decline of RoS. I'll probably give Mandalorian a look, but only b/c it's gotten rave review by some, including Red Letter Media, a youtube movie channel whose opinions I respect.
