The Bard in the show is Jaskier and not Dandelion. I’m a fan of the game and not of the books and I really don’t care for Dandelion either way. I like Cavill as Geralt and only wish he were a bit taller and thinner. I feel the personality is there but he’s too short and muscular for Geralt.

I don’t mind any of the changes they’ve made though.

If they were making racial changes in order to play up on them then I’d be upset. But those things don’t even get mentioned in the show. If mains were swapped I’d be upset but secondaries are fine IMO.

One thing that’s opened my eyes about this show is that I actually like the weekly releases better than the full on season all at once. Here I am anticipating Mandalorian next week and having to wait a year for Witcher. Shame...

Agreed. Though, given the performance that Cavill is putting in I'd rather Geralt that's a bit too broad and masculine than a dreadful actor.

More than a worthy sacrifice.

I've found the casting to be pretty solid all round. I do wish Triss had a bit more air time though. I'm not feeling her character but there hasn't really been enough time to judge fairly.

Triss, Yen, and Fringilla have been getting the most negative critiques but I like all 3. I don’t see any casting missteps to be honest. It’s a solid show. I had my doubts and didn’t want my favorite game to make for a bad adaptation. Well done Netflix!

I like Yen and Fringilla actually. I just haven't quite connected with Triss.

If she was casted as a minority for the sake of needing a minority... That's actually racist.

I've watched through episode 4 and I'm really enjoy it. I played Witcher 2&3 but never read the book. I enjoy the format of how the show is presented. It doesn't hold your hand and give an exposition for everything going on. The viewer has to figure it out themselves. By episode 4, everything starts to make come clear with how it's presented and makes the show much more interesting imo. So far, every episode is better than the last. I was unsure about Henry playing Geralt, but after episode 1, I was sold on him. He's done a great job at the mannerisms of Geralt and sounds just like him from the game. I really enjoy the other main protagonist as well. They've all been great. Overall, I'm very impressed with the show and it has exceeded by expectations.

I really don’t like the show version of Triss so far. Neither her appearance nor her personality are anything like the game version of Triss, and while the show is an adaptation of the books rather than the games, I find it hard to believe that the book and game versions of Triss are this radically different.

You have to remember this is a TV show that's probably going to span multiple seasons, I highly doubt Triss now will be the same Triss in season 2.  Also other characters evolve including Geralt in this season so you have to bear with it.

I didn't read much of this thread yet since I don't want spoilers. I started watching the first episode last night and didn't get through it. I already read it should get better but that first episode is pants. If it weren't for this thread it would have already gone off my list.

I liked it. A few cringe moments and corny lines (esp with the bard) but overall enjoyable. First episode was meh but I felt like it got better as it went along.

Jaskier and Dandelion are actually the same character. The characters actual name is Julian Alfred Pankratz, Viscount of Lettenhove, but he goes by the alias of Jaskier/Dandelion. Jaskier is his alias in the original Polish version. Jaskier translates to Buttercup in English, which the localization team found too feminine, so it was changed to Dandelion in the English books and games.

“Buttercup” is too feminine. I know, let’s change it to “Dandelion” instead. LMAO. That’s great!

I hate the design. Most of the clothing pieces in the show look great, but damn, this armor is ugly. In the last episode, it's so hard to ignore it.

I've only watched six episodes so far, but what I pleasant surprise this has been! I had low expectations but they mostly nailed it, especially casting. Pacing is a bit weird at times even though I appreciate the "disjointed" structure as it stays true to first novel. My wife and some friends who are not familiar with The Witcher loved it even though I was worried it could be too confusing.

9/10. Excellent!

Magic was lackluster. Most of the spells shown were underwhelming, with the main exception being when Yennefer let loose in the final episode. Pretty sure that Geralt only used 1 of the 8 Witcher signs the entire season, Aard, and he only used it a couple of times. I feel like Netflix didn’t give the show a big enough budget to CGI in more spells, hopefully Netflix invests more in season 2 so that we can get more CGI for spells.

He tries to use Axii on Renfri, it just doesn't work, on account of her being resistent to magic. He also uses some version of Quen, I believe, in order to seal himself in the tomb during episode 3, so the Striga can't force it open. It's also important for us game fans to note, that Geralt in the books isn't really the most amazing sign user among the witchers. Igni for instance, he rarely ever uses for more than starting campfires apparently. He's not exactly the walking flamethrower you can play in the video game. I do think it would be cool to increase his sign usage some in the show though.
