Watched the first half of the season last night. It's more enjoyable than it is flawed. Every episode has a moment or two where I shake my head at some iffy writing or direction, but then I'll find a few more that impress me. Digging how they're taking after the third game musically. Happy with Henry's performance but the casting generally feels mixed. I'd give it a B so far.

Finished. Stand by my impression. Looking forward to S2. Motivated to fully explore the rest of the franchise in the meantime.

I really don’t like the show version of Triss so far. Neither her appearance nor her personality are anything like the game version of Triss, and while the show is an adaptation of the books rather than the games, I find it hard to believe that the book and game versions of Triss are this radically different.

Actually, CDPR took a lot of liberties with Triss. You'd be surprised how different she is in the books. In appearance for one, but I know also a lot of the book fans hate her as a character, because she's a very manipulative person, among other things.

I have no knowlegde of the books and didn't play the games, but really liked it (finished it yesterday). The first 3 episodes there were a lot of introductions and sometimes I only found out late when something happend timewise (allmost all episodes). First 3 episodes where fun, but after that it was extremly bing-worthy. So sad I have to wait unitl 2021 now ;)

Another thing. The main characters don't seem to age. So even when the first season plays out over a long period, you can't tell by looking at the characters.

Only seen the 1st ep so far and... it's just really confusing. I've not played the games, nor read the books and the show just doesn't explain things very well so I've no idea what's going on. I mean, it seems good, and I'll keep watching but the plot is just a huge ? for me at the moment.

That pretty much sums up what I wanted to say, too.

Hopefully everything will be explained well in the following episodes.

It all came together the last four episodes after they followed the last wish's final story.. Very enjoyable stuff and a set up for a game of thrones contender when they start season two as long as they listen to the criticism. I'm so hyped I'm going to play The WItcher 3 again and I'ma start the audio books again from The blood of elves onward and hope novel 5 gets translated soon. I wish they had just called Dandelion his actual name, made a few different casting choices and covered the story with Geralt in the mansion with the bruxka which is my favourite but I suppose that would have been a campy side track but aside from that it is incredibly impressive how they strung they adapted it into a cohesive progression.

Jaskier actually is his name in the original Polish version of the books, it was only changed in translations...for reasons.

This was fantastic I thought. Far better than I had dared hope. Looking forward to Season 2.

The audiobook VA I listened to pronounced dandelion, Dan-dill-ee-on so that's ehat it had always been to me outside of TW3.

Ya, his actual name being Jaskier was news to me as well. Alas, it ultimately makes precious little difference to me.

Hmm, the books I'm reading it's Jaskier. They're in English. I only bought the set about a year ago so perhaps newer version? IDK.

I'm glad for the change. Dandelion is a dumb name...

The Bard in the show is Jaskier and not Dandelion. I’m a fan of the game and not of the books and I really don’t care for Dandelion either way. I like Cavill as Geralt and only wish he were a bit taller and thinner. I feel the personality is there but he’s too short and muscular for Geralt.

I don’t mind any of the changes they’ve made though.

If they were making racial changes in order to play up on them then I’d be upset. But those things don’t even get mentioned in the show. If mains were swapped I’d be upset but secondaries are fine IMO.

One thing that’s opened my eyes about this show is that I actually like the weekly releases better than the full on season all at once. Here I am anticipating Mandalorian next week and having to wait a year for Witcher. Shame...

PC GAMING: BEST GAMES. WORST CONTROLS

A mouse & keyboard are made for sending email and typing internet badassery. Not for playing video games!!!

Agreed. Though, given the performance that Cavill is putting in I'd rather Geralt that's a bit too broad and masculine than a dreadful actor.

More than a worthy sacrifice.

I've found the casting to be pretty solid all round. I do wish Triss had a bit more air time though. I'm not feeling her character but there hasn't really been enough time to judge fairly.
