Forums - Gaming Discussion - The Evergrowing Backlog of 2019

I think I've bought a total of one or two games that have actually come out this year. I'm always at least a year behind in playing new releases (Currently playing Nier: Automata), so for me the backlog stretches on several years back on average.

They're so many that's not even worth trying to write them all. At last most of them were free, either from GOG, the Humble Store or the Epic Store.

And the reasons to not play them are the same as always: playing other games, not having time and not been in the mood.

Please excuse my bad English.

Currently gaming on a PC with an i5-4670k@stock (for now), 16Gb RAM 1600 MHz and a GTX 1070

Steam / Live / NNID : jonxiquet    Add me if you want, but I'm a single player gamer.

I've got around 11+ new games from this yr, not counting the previous yrs worth in my backlog.

Step right up come on in, feel the buzz in your veins, I'm like an chemical electrical right into your brain and I'm the one who killed the Radio, soon you'll all see

So pay up motherfuckers you belong to "V"

I have a goal of beating two games for every one I buy. Hopefully my backlog will be caught up by 2030 :(

What always gets me are the games designed to be okay for ever. Total War, Civilization, Guild Wars 2, Animal Crossing, and my annual or every two year playthrough of the entire Paper Mario series. Kills my free time for new games lol. And now Halo Reach is out again killing my free time like 2010 all over again, teabagging and all.

About 50:50 I'd say. Game Pass (in bold) surely didn't help with that.

Finished: Crash Team Racing, Gears 5, The Outer Worlds, Kingdom Hearts III, Crackdown 3, Dirt Rally 2.0, Trials Rising, FF VII, Outer Wilds
Started: DMC V, Metro Exodus, Life is Strange 2, Tales of Vesperia DE, Jump Force, Dead or Alive 6, The Division 2, World War Z, Blair Witch, PES 2020, Afterparty
Unstarted: Rage 2, Far Cry New Dawn, Bloodstained, Remnant: From the Ashes, Age of Wonders: Planetfall

Turns out it's less than 50%

There are too many to list them all so I'm just going to mention a few Tales of Beseria, Resident Evil 2, Uncharted: the Lost Legacy, South Park: The Fractured but Whole, Dark Cloud 2, Tales of Vesperia Definitive Edition, Final Fantasy Zero, Final Fantasy IX, Final Fantasy XV, God of War, Gears of War 4, Gears 5.

Noob, my backlog has been growing constantly since 1992. My backlog is over 300 games long by now, stretching over 8* platforms (NES, SNES, Gamecube, Wii, Switch, DS, PS2 and PC)

I guess I'll have to invent some extra years to play all those games...

* PS1 and Wii U got dismissed from that list as all the games from my backlog there are playable on a different platform, namely the PS2 or the Switch. Also, PC is not subdivided into DOS, Windows 3.x-Win98, 2000-ME-XP and 7-10

Waaay too many haha.

Part of it is b/c I'm a reviewer for multiple sites and much of my free gaming time is spent logging some hours into those games. The other major reason it's gotten out of hand is I loaded up on Black Friday/Cyber Monday stuff with the intention of playing much of it well into next year. There's just no way I can catch up on everything until at least several months. Then finally there's gamepass which gives me access to a ton more games.

I seriously think I'm going to allocate the first like 6 months of 2020 or even the whole year to just catch up on my backlog and abstain from getting any new games (aside from review stuff of course).

Off the top of my head of stuff I've either barely gotten into or haven't touched:

Kingdom Come Deliverance
Starcraft 2
Rabbids + Mario
Mario Maker 2
Yooka Laylee & the Impossible Lair
Starlink
Assassin's Creed Odyssey
Crash Bandicoot N.Sane Trilogy
Bloodstained
Shadows of War
Trials of Mana (from Collection of Mana)

Then there are games I have put a decent amount of time into but still a lot to go like:

Far Cry 5
Borderlands 3
Horizon Chase Turbo
Tales of Vesperia Definitive
Gears 5

And that's pretty much disregarding the gamepass stuff, plus I missed out on some stuff I still wanted to check out this year like DQ11, Astral Chain, RE2, Cat Quest 2, Ori, etc..

If i listed my backlog I'd be here all day. Let's just say I have 80+ switch games downloaded, 50+ ps4 games on the go etc etc

This is fun! I'd also like to share my backlog. But it really is not that big, since I do not include games I own and started but have ultimately given up on.

I already started and will keep playing:
1) A Way Out
2) Kingdom Hearts 3
3) dreams
4) No Mans Sky

Still have to start:
1) AstroBot Rescue Mission

Here starts more of a philosophical, or virtual backlog, since it concerns games I do not own and also some that are still to come out in the future.
Still have to buy on PS4:
1) Donut County 2) Wattam 3) RE2 Remake 4) RE 3 Remake 5) Days Gone 6) Untitled Goose Game 7) Superliminal 8) The Stanley Parable 9) Jedi Fallen Order 10) Sekiro 11) Return of the Obra Din 12) Nier Automata

Still have to buy on PS5:
1) The Last of Us Part II 2) Death Stranding 3) Ghost of Tsushima 4) FF VII Remake (all in one if possible)

What counts as backlog is up for debate I guess. To me its not just games I own, but all games I still have to play. Though I draw the line on games that have not been anounced yet - surely I will play the next iteration of God of War, but this would be a slippery slope approach, since there are quite a few games that could potentially exist at some point.
