Forums - Website Topics - Can't we just get rid of this like/dislike system ?

I think VGC should double down and add dislikes to forum posts as well.

The funniest part is that with people having subs double, triple and even quadruple the weight of a vote just one golden sub dislike can basically hide any post away, lol.
This thing is a complete mess.

... you have got to be kidding me.  There is no way that can be true.

I don't even know what to say.  That's unbelievable.  The whole voting thing is a sham and I never realized.

Sounds like something EA would do.

Agreed... Well, not about the EA comment.

That's a bit much.

4x is ridiculous. No one's opinion should be worth more because they pay for it.

Having said that though, 2x is ok. I mean... Incentives. They're needed. This site is a business and I'm quite grateful for the service and information I have access to for free. A 2x is acceptable despite the rest my comment.

Please not or I have to see bad comments on top of the comment section from time to time. I agree that up to 4x the voting power is stupid but when I check all the down-voted comments in the news section, most just "deserved" to get down-voted. I don't see comments which should be even up-voted but are down-voted instead.

But the number of votes for or against a comment shouldn't look higher or lower just because of people who pay money voting for it. Give them other rights on this forum but not something like that,

I'm OK with downvoting but it doesn't seem to be at all rare for good posts get effectively removed just because enough people disagree. I agree that some posts are worth hiding, but lots of at least decent posts go along as well. And it's not just that posts get hidden, it's also that replying becomes impossible.

It's possible that in the big picture, the voting system keeps the comment sections clean. Personally though, it doesn't improve my posts at all. It just makes me think what I should say to not get downvoted because people might disagree and ultimately, it makes me avoid posting comments altogether. I still do it occassionally but the voting system essentially makes it impossible to discuss anything in comments (which, depending on how you look at it, might be either a good or a bad thing).

Today I learned that the Xbox Series X is going to fail because the details of its backward compatibility are not fully known 11 months before its launch.

Signature goes here!

A like/dislike system by itself is fine, the problem is making it affect post visibility. Hiding comments is just silly.

Don't tell me we're getting upset over internet points... c'mon. Life is short, it's the holidays. Drink some eggnog, enjoy life.

Buying power is just part of life. :)

I kindly asked Talon to make it possible to choose the amount of +/- when voting in articles. Sometimes I simply leave comments alone, because I feel +4 or -4 is too much to give. Certainly a low priority, so it never happened. Plus he's gone now.
