I've never played Bravely Second, so I can't comment on that.
I was greatly loving Bravely Default up until I got to Chapters 5-8. At that point, the pace, my enjoyment, and my patience all dropped like a fucking rock to the bottom of a lake.

I REALLY hope this one doesn't have that problem or I'll skip entirely because I am NOT doing that shit again!

Someone seems salty.

Even with its flaws, Bravely Default was great.With a BIG sucess under their belts now(Octopath), not only they have more experience now to hopefully avoid those kind of flaws, but also probably have more budget to do a better game.
