Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Xbox Series X Announced (Xbox Scarlett)!

I had a feeling Microsoft was going to go the phone route with consoles going forward. Maybe not an annual release but a new console every three years, with new games working on the last 3 to 4 itterarions. Similar to how games on phones don't work on older models.

I could see these as the names going forward:
Xbox Series X (premium model)
Xbox Series S (affordable model)

Xbox Series X2
Xbox Series S2

Repeat every few years with a new number.

They'll wanna end on the letter, as they do with say the Surface Hub 2X, Windows 10X, etc...so it'll be 2X, 2S. That aside, I would assume that this is correct.

As a hardcore gamer I love the name XSX and it its design. It makes me feel like a real man.

Now that we have the system, are they gonna enhance the controller? I LOVE the Xbox One controller but I always look forward to improvements. In the past, when I get a new system, sometimes I would just sit there with the controller in my hand and say "Wow, this is nice."

From what Phil Spencer said it seems changes are minimal. DPAD has been changed to be like the Elite Controller's and there's a share button. Other then that there doesn't appear to be any substantial changes.

Don't change what ain't broke. Other than adding paddles on the back I don't see a need for gamepads to change in any big way.

Makes sense. I'm of two minds about batteries, though. On one hand, I have been using the same 4 rechargeable batteries for years with no issue but it does feel a little primitive. I wouldn't mind if they weren't the PS3/PS4 route with a lithium battery. At the same time, I want it easily replaceable in case something goes wrong BUT I don't want it to be some proprietary battery that will stop being produced the second they stop supporting the console.

Eh. They'll figure it out.

*shrugs*

Oh definitely, the XBO controller battery life is atrocious. I get through a pair of AA's in about 8 hours, whereas the Steam Controller I just got has been running on a pair of AA's for 30+ hours so far and is showing no signs of stopping.

It's not the lack of the rechargeable batteries that's really the problem for me, it's the battery life. Both the XBO and PS4 controllers have such terrible Battery Life while the Steam Controller is absolutely insane.
