After how things went down at the start of this gen, MS would be pretty foolish to let Sony get the jump on them again in terms of power.

It isn't a matter of 'let', though. Once the hardware is crafted, it's done. Now, they could always pull an X1X later, but at this point, very little change will happen in regards to specs.

The most we can expect is a possible clock increase for CPU/GPU/Ram pending thermal and power headroom... It's happened with consoles in the past via a firmware update.

^What Versus said. Xbox was so named because it was the first console to use Microsoft’s DirectX technology from PC. The goal of the project was to make a console that was easy for PC only developers to port their games to, a goal which was ultimately successful, with MS luring in quite a few formerly PC only developers to the system, including Bethesda with Elder Scrolls 3 and BioWare with KOTOR.

False.

Dreamcast used Windows CE and Microsoft's Direct X.

Yeah I can see them going with an approach like Xbox Series X for "Anaconda", Xbox Series S for "Lockhart", later Xbox Series Z for the 2023 Pro model.

It will be interesting to see how many main skus there will be, as it seems there might be four for xbox next gen:

1) x series which is less powerful than the xbox1x as its the same as a ps4 Pro.

2) digital ony one

3) the actual next gen xbox

4) mid gen upgrade one

The next question I have is what will the price difference be between the x series, actual xbox next gen, xbox1x and the ps5.

Finally, what will be the difference in performance and price be between the xbox1x, xseries and ps5?

Scorpio became One X and Scarlett became Series X

Now it was said that Scarlett was or would be a family of devices, so odds are more likely right now we're going to see a another Series something.

Series X, Series Y, Series Z, etc.

This way they can now follow up with something like Series XS for the slim version. Then maybe Series 2X or Model X afterwards ('next gen') to show it remains in the same performance group but a step up within the same family.

I sure hope they don't do something worse like calling each model, Series X1 (Lockhart), Series X2 (Anaconda), Series X3 (future), etc. This wouldn't be much of a problem if they ditched last gen, but having XB1, XB1X, and XBSX1 on the shelves, would be terrible marketing.

*They could actually get around this pretty easily by just skipping Series X1, and going to Series X2. Make X2 Lockhart, and make X3 Anaconda, or if they have discless versions in mind, maybe leave X2 for the discless Lockhart, X3 for Lockhart, X4 for discless Anaconda, and X5 for Anaconda. This would actually put Anaconda on the same number scheme as PS5, which would be smarter marketing.

I think the best thing to do is make the Lockhart its own letter designator. Anaconda is Series X, Lockhart is Series S. Future iterations should be Xbox Series 2 X and Xbox Series 2 S. This is simple and easy to understand.

The Worst thing they can do now is go into the Xperia line of naming. If we end up with something like Xbox Series 1, Xbox Series 5, Xbox Series 10, Xbox Series Z, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series T, Xbox Series XZ, then it is going to completely confuse consumers just like Sony has done.

With multiple tiers, there needs to be a clear identification of what is the Top, Middle, and Low end, in addition to what is current, and what is prior.

I hope they are able to brand and market it in a way that the masses can understand. It would be a shame if they deliver a great product, and have it fail, in part,  due to bad branding like we saw with WiiU and Vita.

Not sure which way you're leaning. At first you say the models should have different letters and that would work out good, yet then mention that having different letters would be a problem. Or are you mocking me since I said X1, X2, etc would be bad, then realized just skipping X1 would fix the problem?

If they want to do slim models, considering they've been using the letter "S" to identify that version, calling launch Lockhart the S model would be odd since the slim version would then be known and the 'XB Series SS'. I'd stick to X,Y,Z if they are going that route. Actually maybe not Z because the slim ZS model would be a Z's sleeping meme nightmare.

Could go Series XL for Lockhart, but make Anaconda Series XX becauuse XA doesn't sound right. Which would lead to XLS and XXS I guess?

I dunno, XB and names are just a mess all around. I kinda like my X2, X3, X4, X5 idea now. Seems quite simple and easily matches Anaconda with PS5.

We were wrong all along. The name is just Xbox and not Xbox Series X. Microsoft doing all the mistakes Nintendo did with the Wii U: Bad first presentation and needing to explain what they meant afterwards...

""The name we're carrying forward to the next generation is simply Xbox," a Microsoft representative told Business Insider, "And at The Game Awards you saw that name come to life through the Xbox Series X."

Like the first Xbox generation, the next one is simply named "Xbox."

It's a basic rebranding, but a meaningful one that could help to simplify the Xbox line for interested consumers. It also clarifies Microsoft's intention with its console line.

"Similar to what fans have seen with previous generations, the name 'Xbox Series X' allows room for additional consoles in the future," the Microsoft rep told us."

Not crazy about either the name or the shape.

But I must admit if this baby is the beast they say it is, I totally don't care about the shape or name, if it gets the job done.

I won't buy it because I'm a Sony Pony or whatever we are called LOL but I must admit it's a nice piece of hardware and should I ever decide to try a system on the Microsoft side, it would definitely be this one.

For the sake of argument, let's say I want to buy it, here is my problem. With the shape of the Series X, how do I set it? The space under my TV is totally horizontal so I'm sure it would not fit in there. There's this table between me and my TV where I could simply put Series X on but I suspect it would be too high and get between my TV screen and my field of vision (the table in question is fairly high). Only solution left is to put the Series X on the floor. Bad idea as I've heard it's not advised as the important flow of air it would suck in would end up over dusting the inside of the machine.

So I don't have too many options left should I decide to get this monster and this worries me a bit cause I expect the monster I plan to buy (The PS5) to be big too in order for it to keep cool more efficiently despite what is expected to be a huge boost in power at least as much if not more than the Series X. So should Sony go with some kind of similar design, my theoretical Series X problem could become very practical and very real as the PS5 is an almost certain day one purchase for me.

Crowd reaction was fun!

Imagine not having GamePass on your console...

Anaconda will be Day One for me. I feel like I cannot make any comments about the shape of the new MS Console, because I think it's the best solution to make such hardware breathe better. Since a long time, this will be the Gen where I buy two next gen console roughly at the same time.

The hardware is a jewel.

The hardware is a jewel.

What a complete bullshit video.

1. There is absolutely no information in that video about the hardware inside.

2. It uses every buzzword the hapless author could find on the internet, without understanding a single word of it.

3. It makes several simple mistakes, like "Four times more gpu power than the X1X".

4. Variable Rate Shading is only available on XSeriesX. Wow, colour me (and everyone else) surprised.

What a complete bullshit video. At least we now know the voice of mrxmedia....

Seriously, people should at least watch a video before linking to a complete bullshit video containing ZERO INFORMATION.

What are you talking about, that video showed a detailed rumor list of what will be inside of the Series X

You have to love that whole point on Variable Rate Shading.  Just listening to that part got me hyped.

That video is solid gold for any Xbox fanboy and I approve of its message.  It has ALLM and DLI and other buzz words.  MS marking should hire this guy, he makes you want to run out and purchase this 2001 odyssey monolith.
