Devil May Cry 5 deserved more love. It has that game-y, arcade-y feeling you just don't see that often anymore. I had far more fun with it, using chainsaw motorcycles, demon tigers etc. than with Sekiro, where all you have to do is learn to parry with the same weapon the entire game.

THE GOTY WAS A 85 METACRITIC GAME IS A JOKE.

Go Sekiro!

Yeah.

Disco Elysium, RE 2R and Sekiro it's okay. One 82 metacritic game  won GOTY only show how got is a biased choice. Only shows consoles war. It is not a game that sold a lot. It is not a critically rated game. So there is no point in receiving so many awards other than an attempt at correction, to rewrite history. In short, Goty Aggregator is not worth much, just validation for a minority.

Sekiro and Death Stranding have exactly the same number of 90+ scores on Metacritic, 56 each, with the latter having the largest number of perfect 100 scores by quite a gap. And Disco Elysium, to give another example, has 44 90+s and less 100s than Death Stranding as well.

I think the averages are giving you a fairly misleading impression here. What do you want certain outlets to do? "Oh well, another site didn't quite like the game we gave a 100 score to, so let's choose another game of the year?"

but don't have the same points. One is 90+ and other is 82. The misleading impression is goty aggreagator.

LOL, metacritic is just an average dude..., it doesn't mean shit. Is basic mathematics....

IF Game A receives 9, 9 , 9, 9, 9, 9, 9, 9, 9 and 9 from 10 different outlets it has a 90/100 metacritic rating.
If Game B receives 10, 6, 10, 6, 10, 6, 10, 6, 10, 6 from those same 10 different outlers it has a 80/100 metacritic rating

So Game A is better than game B, so it has more chances to win GOTY, right???

But if those outlets that give Game A a 9, have another game giving a 10, or just consider another game to be better, that game will receive the GOTY from that site and not GAME A. And if game B receives the GOTY from the sites it received the 10/10, then...., who cares that other sites didn't like the game as much??, The fact that if a site doesn't like the game as much as them, they giving it a 9 or a 1 doesn't change anything. It only matters that the sites that liked it, liked a lot, period. It's not "consoles war" or a "biased choice". If someone doesn't like the opinions of others in this particular aspect...., well, don't give a shit about the results or just find another hobby, but don't try to disiminish the victory of the winners just because you don't like that winner....

How do you think sites should decide on their goty? Should it be the game that site liked most or should it be the game they think most people liked most? Because I'd say most are doing the former but your argument seems to be that they should be doing the latter.

...

Updated standings. Death Stranding sitting comfortably in the lead, followed by Resident Evil 2 remake, then Sekiro.

Critics' Picks are still very tight - with all three games separated by only 4 picks - should come down to the wire.

Death Stranding completely dominating against other exclusives - with over 4 times the awards of all Microsoft and Nintendo exclusives combined - impressive stuff!

I have followed gotyblogspot for some years now, but I'm not sure if it's to be trusted.
