Forums - Gaming Discussion - MLB The Show goes multiplatform

Now Nintendo tweets about this too.

That moment when both of Nintendo's direct competitors provide better third-party support for the Switch than EA does.

Hell when you make the best product in town why not spread the love around. If EA or 2K were competent at making baseball games, Nintendo and Xbox gamers could enjoy playing baseball without using Sony's talent.

In the case of Nintendo, if EA even bothered to make a Switch version of MLB it'd just be a no-effort rehash of an old version, not that a new version wouldn't also be crappy per their standards. 2K probably would make a decent Switch MLB game. Nintendo made the best baseball games on its own hardware back when they still had majority ownership of the Mariners.

Is this like Microsoft putting Minecraft on everything?
Not sure how MLB is tied to Playstation.

The studio that make The Show is owned by Sony.  Minecraft was multi platform before Microsoft bought Mojang.

I see. Then it sounds like the same situation.

And I was referring to the Minecraft brand.
In 2020 Minecraft Dungeons will be released on all platforms.

Not entirely the same.

Minecraft is 100% a Microsoft property since they own Mojang. Whatever happens with Minecraft is entirely up to Microsoft.
SIE San Diego makes The Show games, but the license is owned by Major League Baseball.

The two likely scenarios are: 1) MLB wanted them to take the game multiplatform so that they could sell more copies and if Sony refused, they would have taken the license elsewhere. EA or 2K Sports the most likely candidates. 2) MLB gave Sony a deal they couldn't refuse and decided they'd make way more money in the long term to release them multiplat than to stay exclusive. Either way, it's the MLB's call, not Sony's.

That's fantastic, I predicted this would happen years ago but not under Sony. I thought EA or 2K would take over.

My logic was this is a strong series but doesent sell well enough. Its one of the the lower selling annual sports games.

Should be good sales given Xbox is popular in the US and this series only sells well in the US.

EDIT: Found my prediction. Again, I was just wrong about it being sold. Didnt think Sony think would go multiplat themselves. Probably because they opted to sell SOE instead of going multiplat.

Sony can also stay face by saying this is a MLB thing entirely. But its best for them, more money and its not a great system seller.

It only releases in the U.S. and Australia. Which baffles me because baseball is the most popular sport in Japan. They have their own professional league that does extremely well. I'm not sure how popular Major League Baseball is over there, but I'd think The Show could sell respectably well if they released there.

Not sure if it would, maybe its been tried in the past or license issue.

2k sucked but EA had MVP Baseball which inspired a lot of The Shows gameplay elements and was a terrific franchise. EA had to stop making it because 2k had the exclusive license for years but they never picked it back up when 2k lost the license. Guess baseball games don’t make enough revenue for EA to care.

It begins...........

Next will be Dreams and Gran Turismo coming to PC, or even other platforms. Sony already said they were thinking about expanding their MP games to other platforms. I guess MLB The Show was the best 1st candidate to do this.

I will not be surprised if Microsoft ends doing the same thing about some of their games too. Pretty sure Nintendo will not do it.
