Forums - Gaming Discussion - Apparently Microsoft and Sony made up? Minecraft

Was in Walmart and saw a Minecraft on the shelf that couldn’t be sold until the 10th but it was the Better Together version with crossplay. Did they ever announce this?

Anyways, that’s great. Maybe it’s because of Azure powering their online services now. Hope it leads to more crossplay in the future.

Nah, I know they took cross play out of “beta” whatever that means, but this was seen as something that would never happen because MS requires an Xbox account to do Minecraft crossplay. Maybe that requirement doesn’t exist on PS4?

Wow - it's nearly 2020 and Minecraft is still a thing...

It was the most popular game on YouTube in 2019, over 100 billion views. Who knew

I’m a teacher and it is definitely still a thing.  In fact it seems like it is resurging.  I hear more students talking about Minecraft then any other game.  I hardly even hear them talk about fortnite (thank the lord).

The bedrock update is out now for ps4 and you do need to link your PS account to a Microsoft account to use the crossplay feature.

The bedrock version kinda sucks though:
- It takes a lot longer to load, runs less smooth and can take a lot of time to draw in more world when you fly around quickly
- World conversion has bugs, here and there a chunk of my world is missing.

- Mine carts move a whole lot slower and keep pausing, not very useful for fast travel and it screws up timing mechanisms everywhere.
- Power rails don't stay lit up as long as before thus more torches needed to fix dead spots
- Beacons don't show until you get close defeating the whole point of them
- Red stone doesn't work the same, some mechanisms have glitch, some don't work at all.
- Stacked pistons don't work anymore

- Glitchy buttons that stay depressed
- No room to convert worlds, you need to delete old ones first and the file size grows to 155% when converted.

That's just what I ran into trying stuff out for an hour. I had hoped I could use this to import my giant world to the pc and use it there. However when half the red stone stuff is misbehaving there is no point. At least you can easily switch back to the old version (under editions at the bottom of the menu) which loads and runs faster. I'll wait until Bedrock is improved before switching.

What would they call me out on?

Good for people that like crossplay.
I find the building aspects of LBP much better and even that I didn't play more than 10h because I don't like to build worlds, I like to play with a story.
Let's see if Dreams change that for me.

I do like to build stuff but was disappointed when LBP2 messed up the stuff I made in LBP1. Some things didn't work anymore and it all didn't look as good anymore. With Minecraft it's the same now. This cross-play bedrock edition is a step back from the ps4 version.

I don't know if I should get Dreams for the ps4 or wait for the inevitable ps5 version. I don't want to end up building stuff with only half a year left in the ps4 lifespan to have it all not work right on the ps5.

MS messed up Minecraft, the slowdowns, bugs and messy UI aren't worth having cross-play. It's fine for new users but when you're used to a much faster version, it's pretty disappointing.
