Kind of a low bar in Japan really, given the nature of the Switch.

Good, but the lowest selling PS console (has the PS4 overtaken the PS3 over there yet?) being beaten by a Nintendo handheld in Japan seems obvious. It would have been worrying if it didn't outsell it.

Switch takes another scalp, but yeah not that impressive. Talk to me in a couple years when Switch passes 20 million and goes after 3DS numbers in japan.

Im kinda surprised the PS4 hasn't overtaken the PS3. It seems to do pretty ok in Japan.

PS4 is definitely overdue for a price cut. Plus, last gen the home console market was in a slightly better position. Not by much, but PS3 was able to pull off 10.5M and 360 did 1.7M.  This gen, XBO will be lucky to hit 250K. PS4 may leg it out to tie PS3 if they actually drop it to the equivalent of $199-$225 next year and it gets a boost from FF7 and Ghost of Tsushima.

Took longer than what I thought it would, PS3 and PS4 dropped majorly compared to PS2 sales in Japan.

How long though till it overtakes the PS3 global. That should be very interesting to follow.

Sony has lost a lot of trust in Japan. Maybe they are no longer in touch with japanese requirements, and Japan became a less and less important market for them. Sony focused too much on the western markets and lost a lot in Japan.

So no, PS4 is not doing very OK in Japan. It doesn't matter so much, as the device is doing pretty well elsewhere, but Japan has become a difficult market for Sony. Well relatively speaking, obviously it isn't XBox bad.

That's pretty low to have Switch compete against last gen.

Not only that, but to make it more specific to make it seem like Switch has the upper hand. Like why compare just in Japan and not as a whole?
