Forums - Sales Discussion - Global Hardware 30 November 2019 - Black Friday Week

An absolute phenomenal week. This is the best week in the US for the Switch ever.

Last year Switch sold another 5.63m after Black Friday. So even if it was flat YoY, Switch will end the year 50.2m easily beating the Snes!

Black Friday week was up by 19% YoY, so if the rest of the year followed it'd end the year with 51.2m, but without the boost from Smash Bros 2018 got it's difficult to say whether this year will be Up, Flat or even slightly down. I don't really know what to expect!

But outselling the SNES by the end of the year is pretty much guaranteed. Should be anywhere from 49.9m-51.3m

20.3m - 21.7m sales for the year, I think I lost the bet. I don't see 2020 beating 2019 anymore. If it does it'll be very close.

Black Friday this year was a week later, so hard to judge if sales after it this year will be the same as last year. Obviously sales should be up for most weeks compared to last year. Other than Smash Bros. launch.

Ohhhh, I got a bit too excited it seems. Didn't realise there's one less week... FFS

This week was mostly about North America.  Switch killed all around, but XB1 made a decent show in NA.  Normally it gets crushed by PS4, but this time PS4 is only about 5% above XB1 in NA.

Switch came in #1 in Europe too by a sizable margin.  I didn't see that coming.  Looks like Switch is going to rule the holidays in every region this year.

Switch sells more than 830,000 in America during Thanksgiving week, 17.5 million total units in the Americas.

Best sales week for the Switch ever.

So what does that make the Xbox total for the month in the us? Something seems very off about that number but maybe I need the full picture

For the US in November we have the following for sales:

  1. Switch - 1,565,057
  2. PS4 - 1,062,666
  3. XOne - 908,144

We have an analyst predicting the Switch to be the best-selling platform in November, the PS4 down year-on-year, but over 1 million, and the Xbox One between 800,000 and 1 million. http://www.vgchartz.com/article/441593/analyst-ps4-sold-over-1-million-in-november-in-the-us-xbox-one-below-1m-switch-best-selling-console/

Ok I thought it did better than that outside of this week

I was just about to post this

When the herd loses its way, the shepard must kill the bull that leads them astray.

So over 830k in USA means about 86-87% of NA sales if this sites numbers are correct.

Damn son I didnt think the ps4 would pass the 1m sold tbh.
And the xboxone did VERY WELL this week.
Very good week for two consoles in their 6th year going.
The PsVita didnt take advantage of Black Friday tho, theres no excuse for it not reaching 50 units sold.

I found this line interesting.

"Other Nintendo Switch games also passed new life-to-date sales milestones in the Americas, including
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe at 8.5 million, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate at 8 million, Super Mario Odyssey at 6.5 million and New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe at 1.5 million.*"

Apparently Smash Bros has sold almost as much in the Americas as Mario Kart 8 D.  When you consider that Mario Kart was released about 1.5 years earlier, that says a lot about Smash Bros.  Maybe it has better legs in NA?

Depends a lot on how Animal Crossing harmonizes with the Switch Lite and how the game is.

It SHOULD be a guaranteed 15-20M seller over a long peroid of time and raise the baseline of hardware sales.
2020 could become insane for the Switch.

But it depends a lot on the next showing. How good is this new Animal Crossing? Guess a January Direct will tell.

Learnt after this post that there's one less week after Black Friday this year than last year. So 2019 will probably have maybe 1m less then I thought, 19.3m-20.7m. Which I think gives 2020 a much better shot.

I'm sure Animal Crossing will sell 15m-20m.
