Well, yeah, it's a debatable topic, which is why we are debating it...

I did mention halo on my examples above and it's patently obvious the quality difference in quality output from both lines of first party studios to the general public. If you'd want to put games side by side for some reason, i think it would look more embarrassing for Microsoft if you put their 3rd person action games vs the ones on Sony side.

We have some admission by the Xbox guys themselves in the justification for their studio purchasing spree, they were caught with their pants down all generation and hopefully they can improve. Which goes back to my original point, it's not about quantity, these studios need now to produce the type of quality content Sony WWS have done this gen.. Hope they can, more good games for us all to enjoy.

Well if you want to work out who actually makes better games than instead of comparing apple to oranges its best to compare apples to apples. No point comparing a Card game to a Racing game. The genres MS invest in they tend to do the best in.

It also wont be embarrassing for MS because this gen we haven't seen much of MS competing in the 3rd person action market aside from Gears 4 and 5 which I would be quite comfortable to put them up against the best 3rd person action games this gen. You can also argue the same point going with Xbox games, where FPS and the Racing genre Xbox have dominated in much the same with Sony dominating the story telling 3rd person games. If rumours are true than that's why MS created The Intuitive, who are rumoured to be creating a story telling 3rd person action game.

Honestly not many games have been made internally by MS/Xbox this gen, a lot of the games released have been contracted to other developers to make. But when you look at the games MS have made internally, they have been quite solid releases and quality wise, they are up there with the AAA standards. Its just Sony had this gen firing on all cylinders, with majority of there 1st party studios delivering while MS were in the mix of closing and buying and basically relied on 3 to 4 1st party studios to make games while the rest were again sourced from outside.

The problem is alot of the crowd seem to think Halo & Gears are going stale.
Also multiplat devs make tons and tons of FPS genre games..... so not getting them from 1st party, isnt nearly as noticeable, as lacking 3rd person action games (which arnt as common) (if your into those sorts of games).

Also even if Halo & Gears, are up there in terms of quality, i think their still astep behinde some of Sony's titles.

Thankfully Sony does absolutely no market research and has no inside sources, so that surprise will surely shock them and lead them to completely redesign the PS5 as a response, because that's how companies work.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

Yes the good old "most powerfull console" strategy that seems to BE working só great for them , that why their most powerfull console is selling half PS4 and switch is selling five Times more acoording to the great vgchartz.

I bet Sony is shitting in their pants.

1- I was comparing general game quality from both first party studios, not genre specific, because that would always be bias toward whatever genre any person prefers. You consistently have Sony 1st party games in the goty discussion year after year, how many first party Xbox games were even in contention this gen?

2- "It also wont be embarrassing for MS because..." we don't know what will or won't. I said it was embarrassing to compare the output in terms of 3rd person action games. Meaning in the past, I don't predict the future. Also, "rumors... are rumored" made me chuckle a bit, it sums up greatly your counterpoints.

3- Exactly, not many games have been made by Xbox 1st party, thank you for making my point for me. They have a ton of studios and still, nothing worth noting comes out (except Forza, those guys are prolific if nothing else). Solid releases like state of decay 2, sea of thieves and crackdown 3...

Multiple insiders have been saying MS is just behind in sending out dev kits. And they won’t be final until next year anyway. Doesn’t seem like they’re trying to surprise Sony with anything. The consoles will be close in power.

To play devils advocate, Microsoft has more studios than Sony now... And a massive portion of which we haven't seen make an exclusive that really pushes the Xbox's hardware.

Actually, at last count, they were about even (around 15 each). This is particularly better for Sony [currently], given their 1st Party studios put out more hardware pushing content.

Of course, I expect things to even back out some at the beginning of next gen, but I just wanted to clear up that little misconception. :P

Ah my mistake. Serves me right for not fact checking an articles claim.

Quality is a debatable topic, The games you picked above is more a preference thing. All those games are completely different to each other so apples to oranges. But if you want to compare quality than its best you put simular games togother. Better comparing same genre games like Halo 5 up with games like Killzone SF or Grand Turismo Sport up against Forza Motorsport 7 etc.

MS claimed most of there studios have 2 teams working on games, eg Rare is making Everwild while the other team focuses on Sea of Thieves etc.

Quality is very subjective. I would prefer a game like Uncharted over Sea of Thieves... But also prefer a game like Halo over the likes of Spiderman.

That doesn't mean Sea of Thieves or Spiderman are bad titles, it's just personal taste is coming into play.

So far everything indicates that both consoles will be over 10 Teraflops, with PS5 having a slight edge. If I would take a guess I think Xbox Scarlett will be 10,01 TF just because Microsoft probably assumed Sony was going for 7-8TF and they wanted the marketing number above 10. PS5 should be between 10,1-10,6TF.

Next-gen PS5 will go against Xbox Scarlett, Google stadia, Amazon cloud gaming, Xcloud and PC gaming but I expect PS5 will slaughter everything.

We have no idea how powerful next-gen consoles are going to be. That is the reality of it all.
We do know what technologies are going to be in next-gen consoles however as Sony and Microsoft is leveraging PC technology.

PS4 is a bit more muddled. Base PS4 is better than base Xbox One but Pro is weaker than X. Maybe PS5 will best Scarlett.

Playstation 4 had a higher bandwidth memory interface and a vastly superior graphics processing unit.
Base Xbox One actually had lower-latency memory and a faster central processing unit.

In short, the graphics processor is what draws all the pretty pictures that helps sell videogames... Hence the visual discrepancies between platforms for the entire generation.

1) That's a odd thing to say. Because a game doesn't end up in a GOTY discussion has nothing to do with a quality built game. Also GOTY awards can be very bias. Look at the Game awards.. no Devil May Cry 5, Gears 5 or Luigi's Mansion 3.. why? cannot tell me those games are not quality deserving games, instead we get Control and Death Stranding nominated etc. Anyway lets digress. There are plenty of quality games out each year and yet GOTY awards always shaft those games that are more niche into sub genres like racing games. Sony use the popular genre to win these awards and so does Nintendo, its very rare we see a Racing game or FPS game win GOTY these days aside from Overwatch which took the world by storm, other wise, majority win it are 3rd person games.

2) I dont understand your point, its clear MS focus on different type games. They never really focused on big story telling 3rd person games, in fact they don't even have one unless you count Quantum Break which isn't made by MS. Gears 5 is the first to actually achieve a campaign similar to these games and that released at the end of the X1 life. Anyway lets digress.

3) They just brought the studios, are you expecting results a year later? Honestly AA and AAA games can take more than a year to make, which goes to prove my point, if the quality of Xbox games are not up to speed than they will be releasing games on a yearly basis, but know, there games take just as long as any other AAA developer to make. The studios they brought are finishing up there current projects and are now working on there next game, this takes time, doesnt take a rocket scientist to work that out.

Also you continue to nit-pick games like Sea of thieves, Crack Down 3 and State of Decay 2. For starters, what are you comparing SoTs to? Its a solid built title and is easily a AAA built game. Crack Down 3 is a developer disaster so fair enough with that one but again not made by Xbox. State of Decay 2 is a $30 AA game made by a Indy studio. I can nit-pick games too, The Order, Knack 1 and 2, Days Gone, Concrete Genie, Drive Club, GTS, Killzone and more which also copped a lot of criticism, but hey, why compare apples to oranges. Sony dominate the 3rd person genre this gen, no question about it, but you can claim Xbox dominated the Racing genre this gen and Halo is still one of the better shooters this gen, even if the franchise it on decline. Its still reviews a lot better than Sony's Halo Killer Killzone.

Surprise how? They ll unsuspectedly send a package to Sony HQ, and then at a specific momemt a butt naked Phil Spencer pops out yelling "Supplies!"

Hunting Season is done...

Given the contracts needed for sourcing parts and the getting all the chips fabricated, complete hardware decisions are likely locked in already.

And given Direct X and Windows connection, I'm wagering MSFT has probably issued a performance target, and studios can create on PC and make optimizations later on a formal Dev kit.
