Hi everyone, 

I just a got 4K tv and was thinking of upgrading to 4K gaming. I already have a Ps4 and a Switch so I also wanted to complete this generation's console collection as I do every generation. 

I found a deal on BestBuy Canada which includes the Xbox One X and all 5 Gears of War games (Although I already own the first 3) for CA$ 449 (around 338 US) was thinking of buying.

But I am also aware that Scarlett is out next year and it would seems that its much better than the One X. So I should I just go cheap and pick up an all digital X Box One (only $180  - ie 136 US) and wrap up my collection

I would go cheap and get an xbox one x and get xbox game pass. If you're an avid gamer, xbox game pass can save a lot of money for you.

Before getting any Xbox, I'd ask what games are you wanting to play on it? Performance is nice but if there's nothing you want to play, don't spend on. I have one (and love it) but the difference isn't as pronounced as you'd imagine.

If you buy Scarlett next year or 2021, there's no need to get the X now. If not, better get the X. The regular One S has rather poor performance regarding 2018 and 2019 games. It obviously wouldn't take advantage of your 4k setup. Game Pass comes with ~100 X enhanced games, so keep that in mind.

Remember, you can always trade-in your Xbox one x to upgrade to scarlet down the road.

I mainly want to complete my 8th gen console set to be honest, already have the rest of them including the WiiU.

The games that I really want to play are the Gears of War Games and replay Ninja Gaiden 2 in 4K. Although if i do get an Xbox One I would definitely pick up the GamePass. Dont know if it is reason enough to spend the extra cash. Unless the 4K experience vastly superior to the what I have now.

I've been debating a bit as I was writing this post, this is my conclusion.

You would be fine with a base X1. It will give you access to every game in the library. Exclusives are generally well optimized. Gears 5 being one of the most notable in that regard. The OG Xbox and 360 BC is also a great feature.

If you really want to scratch your 4K itch, you want more games to maintain a stable 60 fps and perhaps you want to play multiplats on Xbox, then maybe you should consider a X1X.

Whichever hardware you get I would also suggest Gamepass.

I'm starting to think you should get the X1X. Let me put it this way, if you plan on spending maybe a few hundred hours playing on it then maybe the extra cost is justifiable.

Ninja Gaiden 2 and other BC games look fantastic with a resolution boost. Its the only way I would want to replay it right now.

The reality is a resolution upgrade doesn't make games significantly more enjoyable. However, I think you're interested in seeing these games at a higher visual fidelity and often with better performance. It objectively a better way to experience these games, everybody should agree on that.

You might be satisfied with base hardware, it will get the job done. But if you can afford it then get the X1X.

Get the X and Gamepass. The best looking console games, and the best value in gaming as far as services go. There are loads of X Enhanced games on there and even OG Xbox titles.
