I think a lot of people are kinda missing the point, I think it’s great Sony are doing VR cuz they have the market share to do such things. We must remember Microsoft are trying to catch up with there games and studios to compete with Sony so am glad they are focusing on doing just that bringing the games to us and then maybe when they have they can start actually thinking of other things just remember they did go hard on Kinect on the 360 when they had the market share n was making money. Let them focus on getting back to the 360 days where they had games and games and games n then we can talk about other stuff

He doesn't say there will be no VR on Scartlett just that they won't focus on it so they can just allow third party headsets and then games will release on the platform because for such a niche area any userbase increase opportunity will be taken. I'd much rather them take that approach than shifting more resources and more teams onto VR only development.

For PlayStation they are already invested and have no reason to stop but I think PSVR2 will face it's own challenges next gen such as new tech higher priced headsets again just as it was getting to a more affordable <$200 bracket for it to again be costing $400 then there is also the fact that people will also be putting $400-500 down on a new console and do current adopters really want more VR next gen or have they tried it had a decent time with it and moved on? There is certainly a lot of unknowns with VR going to next gen.

Pretty stupid to close the door on VR like that. Sure, in general VR games are a bit crap and the ps4 was not powerful enough to run full fledged games in VR. However, with the extra power of ps5 and better support from developers, VR has a shit ton of potential. I mean even with downgraded graphics, RE7 VR was still the most terrifying and immersive game I've ever played. Not saying that I want a lot of AAA developers focus on VR, but if they can port more modern games to VR like they did with RE7, it could be pretty awesome.

Stuff like this "non-communal" quote is why so many people think Phil is a bullshit artist. It's ridiculous. Gaming has ALWAYS offered plenty of single-player experiences. It's every bit as much a part of gaming as multi-player.

I suppose the bright side here is that he's basically straight-up telling me that Xbox isn't for me. Good to know. Thanks, Phil.

He didn't say anything against singleplayer and MS is investing much more in singleplayer campaigns now.

You can also clearly see how Gamepass is used to help singleplayer games which don't live from microtransactions

He just argued about VR and how that is isolating (even though it shouldn't matter what his opinion is and only what people want)

I have to disagree with Phil on this one.

VR when used as a Social medium, is by far the most powerful connectivity tool available today.

Playing online multiplayer games in VR delivers a massive leap in communication and interaction between players.

This is quite a let down for to be honest. Microsoft has two franchises that could see monumental advances by going VR in the future. Halo and the Forza games are prime candidates for the medium.

Halo would greatly benefit from the advancements possible on the gameplay side, and on the team side of things, the communication and interaction between players would be increased multiple times over.

Forza in VR would deliver a near track day like experience in your home. After playing GT Sport in VR, I have not had any interest in playing a circuit racer or sim outside of BR.

One of my most anticipated advancements for next gen was being able to the incredible Forza Horizon games in VR. If that isn’t happening, then I am going to be much less excited for future offerings.

To be completely honest, even games like Gears, Crackdown, and The Outer Worlds would benefit greatly from VR. What people don’t realize about VR is just how incredible the impact on scale and audio are when playing in VR. With full 3D rendering the draw distance and elevation give you a real sense of space. It is what nails the feeling of being in the game. This is something that can never be delivered on a flat screen regardless of size or resolution.

I really hope that Microsoft changes its stance on act. The industry needs them to participate. Games like Grand Theft Auto and Call of Duty that reach the mass market are ready to make massive advancements in VR.

Hopefully between Sony, Valve, Facebook, and HTC the market can continue to expand, and help bring Microsoft and Nintendo into the fold.

My experience from my VR has been it gets people together including parents and children, gamers and non gamers.

My issue has been setting up everytime I want to play due to the hdr pass through and the number of cables. If they can resolve this with the next VR, I'll invest more into it.

They are simply not investing into it since they splashed out buying studios and won't see a return until the games are released and do well... That along with not having sold enough xbox units.

There is nothing wrong if they don't focus first on their first party and then move into VR once they have established their core base, but there is no need for lame excuses.

Yeah. Phill is fully into the "console" game. I mean, at this rate he could just bow out from next-gen completely. At this rate, there won't be any spot left to nail anything else into that coffin

Vote the Mayor for Mayor!

And they just forgot they were touting and working on AR.
About his local MP, PSVR have some local MP games around it. Plus I don't really remember X1 being recognized by its local CO-OP. That arena only Nintendo can really be said to be proficient.

I have no interest in VR. I'm annoyed by the games I can't play during to being locked by VR like Vader Immortal. I want to look at other things than my screen as I play a game. I move around a lot, go get food, play with my new baby daughter, talk to my wife, etc. I don't just want to sit down and look inside a headset screen for an hour or longer. If you like VR, cool. I just don't. Doesn't make sense for the way I live my life.

Thats a excuse, after knowing such questions would be aimed at them with the new upcomeing Consoles (ps5,xb2).

He probably had some PR guy couch him on how to reply to such a question.
Just say "we ll I dont like VR, and its not for our platform, no one is asking for it... "

this video says it all imo:

Also remember Xbox wanted to bring VR to the XB1 but basically couldnt do it themselves, so had to partner with someone else to make it?
Which then ended up failing.... and them breaking their promis to bring VR to the XBox One?

Also he's quoted before as saying the Scarlet would do VR.
This man lies alot (or just backtracks on stuff).
