There's always weird pockets of the world moving backward. The world is generally moving forward, though.

Pockets? Brazil is a pocket? Ot the US? And what about all the extreme right polititians gaining popularity and power in Europe?

This is far worse than a pocket.

The swing between left and right-wing politicians and waves of public concern has existed since the dawn of democracy. But the pendulum nearly always swings stronger left than it did right; one major setback would be Neoliberalism in the late 1970s and early 1980s following the oil crisis - but that is dying out now. The Western world has advanced tremendously technologically and financially over the last few decades. While some places (mostly Mediterranean countries) have not done as well, the overall trend is advancement. Additionally, the big story of rising popularity in Europe has not been with the far right-wing, it has been the green movement.

If you go back 30 years ago in Europe, there were literal dictatorships in existence.

Go back 60 years ago, and there were massacres of people based on beliefs, by the hundreds of thousands.

Go back 80 years, and there's a fascist regime now expanding rapidly across Europe and slaughtering millions.

Go back 120 years, and you have children dying in work camps, Imperials slaughtering Africans by the millions over gold, diamonds, and rubber, while lying to the West and saying the troops are deployed to spread democracy.

Go back earlier, and we didn't even have electricity. Murder due to religious differences was commonplace. Working days were often as long as 16 hours a day for six days of the week - and not just in crunch time during software development, during all times - and often in intense, physically laborious situations.

The far-right in today's Western nations wouldn't be recognized as such in earlier times. The far-right of previous times were interested in slavery and executions for those who did not match the genetic make-up or birthright of their chosen caste. The extent of the far-right of today is that they want to bully immigrants - and this is not anything new it's just getting a lot more attention now because of how much more people disapprove of this sort of activity. Over the past 75 years we moved away from nationalism.

Yes, there was a surge of far-right politicians a few years ago, but the pendulum is already swinging back. It is a blip, and it will occur again in 10-20 years because people get frustrated and stupid. Each time weaker than the last.

But in no place in the Western World is anyone hoisting up gigantic bibles of comical proportions and declaring a renewal of witch hunts.

Even in Israel, the far-right is on the verge of getting tipped off their pedestal. In the US, Trump is about to be impeached.

At least, as far as I see, shes far better than the dictator that was there before her.Not saying she is great and all but, life isnt black and white either.

But yeah, South America has been in shambles for decades now.Hard to fix it, when you have corrupt politicians trying to destroy it left and right....

What are you seeing that indicates that?

I love how it is ok to mock religious person if they are christian.

Being Christian is fine. Being a Christian fundamentalist fascist out to transform the government into a theocratic one out to persecute the natives cause of witchcraft is insane and should not ever be condoned.

If you don't believe the pendulum has not swung as far as it has in the past. Take a look at this clip:

She seems kinda crazy but I think this is still better than if the shithead dictator, disciple of Chavez stayed in power like he wanted to. I'm glad Bolivians got rid of him.

The main stuff the Christian Gospels are against is the stuff she's doing.

Why is a tyrant institutionalizing a reign of terror an improvement?

That is most likely a manuscript parchment bible made from animal skins before modern paper and the printing press was invented. These are highly valuable items and used for ceremonial purposes today.

The oldest one is Codex Vaticanus from the 4th century AD
