Yep, Japan is at two million already, above Diamond and Pearl's 1,588,734, about the same as Sun and Moon's 1,905,107 first three days.
Guess all the doom and gloom early in the thread didn't align with reality.

Thanks for the update!
It means 32% of the sales were digital then.
In line with the digital rates of Link's awakening, Fire emblem and Mario Maker

They give sell through percentage |
Can't see that in the same document, link please!
That's a wrong logic. Digital sales are much bigger now but this is at cost of physical copies numbers.

Now that we have a Sword/Shield number including digital sales, an estimate for digital sales should be added where applicable when we compare Sword/Shield's 2m to the other games. http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/post.php?id=9076782 X/Y was released at a time when simultaneous physical + digital releases were still in their infancy on Nintendo consoles, Sun/Moon was better off, but I still wouldn't put its digital share above 10% because that's about the value where Switch started from in 2017. Including an estimate for digital sales: Black/White - ~2.6m A decline is still there, but Sword/Shield's high digital share makes the decline considerably smaller than zorg1000's conservative estimate in the post linked above. |
I read somewhere that sun and moon digital hit 100k Ltd in Japan so digital wasn’t even close to 5%

Zhuugex tweet says S&M sold 2m FW in Japan, 1.9m on famitsu, so 100k digital FW.

Sorry, I should have specified, Famitsu gives out sell through percentage along with retail sales.

Ah yes thanks. Unfortunately not too accurate though. They give Mario Maker's sell-through ratio as 80% to 100%.
So for Mario Maker 2:
Ratio Sell-Through | Sold-Through | Digital Sell-Through | Shipped (not sold-through) | Digital Ratio |
80.00% | 644k | 70k | 166k | 8.00% |
90.00% | 644k | 164k | 72k | 18.60% |
100.00% | 644k | 236k | 0k | 26.80% |
I guess the midground of 90% is the best way to go, which would give a digital ratio of 18.6% for Mario Maker 2.
Not really needed now we have actual figures given, but interesting anyway lol.
