Forums - Gaming Discussion - The Game Awards - All Time Leaderboard

I figured it would be fun to have this to look at each year as we go into "The Game Awards" season. You know, that time of the year where Geoff Keighley gets embarrassed by Josef Fares. If you are obsessed with data, like me, then hopefully you will enjoy what I've put together here!

Setup: The main developer (if independent) will receive 1 point per award. If they win GOTY or Developer of the Year/Best Game Direction they will receive 5 points.

Nintendo has the most points, so your system works.

Only because of 2017! They were getting dominated before that lol. Things will even out over the years.

2019 will have a sucky winner

Instead of seeking to convince others, we can be open to changing our own minds, and seek out information that contradicts our own steadfast point of view. Maybe it’ll turn out that those who disagree with you actually have a solid grasp of the facts. There’s a slight possibility that, after all, you’re the one who’s wrong.

Its going to be death stranding, and not because the game is topnotch, but because they want kojimadong

Don't think it's going to be Death Stranding, that's too predictable. To pander industry enthusiasts, I think they are very likely to choose The Outer Worlds, "for knocking Bethesda out of the park". Resi 2 has a good shot, too, based on the Golden Joystick awards not too long ago.

My bet with The_Liquid_Laser: I think the Switch won't surpass the PS2 as the best selling system of all time. If it does, I'll play a game of a list that The_Liquid_Laser will provide, I will have to play it for 50 hours or complete it, whatever comes first.

I have enjoyed The Outer World's, so far, a great deal!

Rockstar, Naughty Dog, Turn 10, Playground Games, Bioware are not Independent devs. There's likely a few more in there too, but these are the ones I noticed while scrolling through.
My advice would be to just do a publisher's list, because with some companies it's not easy to tell who the developer is so in essence we're just getting a competition between little indie devs and huge publishers with unknown number of devs making games under one name. Just doing a publisher showdown makes more sense.

I thought about Publisher, but then that got a little confusing and wouldn't really celebrate the developers. I guess you are right though. I will rework it and update it when I get the chance.

I have no transferred the results from the 2020 thread into this to update the all time (I also added the 2019 ones since I forgot to do it last year). Sony took the overall lead from Nintendo after this year's show!

Remember, points are given to the owner of the main developer (which is not always the same as the publisher). I do it this way so we are rewarding the main people behind the operation, and not necessarily who is paying the money to fund the project. I am considering having a second chart that awards the points to the publishers, just to see how the big dogs face off against each other, but I'm mainly doing it this way because I want to bring more attention to smaller studios and developing groups.
