Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Has anyone heard if Nintendo is looking to make a cross IP MMORPG?

So does anyone else want Nintendo is making a MMO game based in a world that crosses many of the famous IPs they are known for? Mario, Metriod, Pokemon, Fire Emblem, Zelda, Kirby, etc. would all be included. However I don't think that they should allow the player to assume the role of the main hero in the series. If they wanted that they would simply tell the person to play the games the character is in already.

Every IP would start in its own realm but has access to a "common" Nintendo realm and can earn entrance to other worlds from there. Every IP would have their own "epic mount." For example a Toad(ette) from Mario could ride a Yoshi, or a Pokemon Trainer could ride either a (motor)bike or a pokemon, or a Metriod Hunter(or space pirate) could tame a wild Metriod and ride it around. The "common" Nintendo Realm could be full of mini-game like quests. Or it could be a "sequel" to SSBB. Either way it could be great fun.

So, anything else you want to see in this game? And what world and class would you like to start with? Should we create documentation for the classes/races/worlds? Should we start a Forum Pen/Paper RPG set in this world? LOLZ! What do you think?

I would be all over the blue-Yoshi mount or maybe a wild Metriod.... But I would want to be from Fire Emblem or Pokemon though... I guess I would want to have more than one character.

I think it's better to hold the franchises apart. This idea isn't really bad, but I think a pokemon mmo could have enough stuff to do already.

I've been wanting a Pokemon MMO for years. It would easily be the best MMO period. But i never tought of a Franchise free-for all idea. It seems interesting but I dont think it would be coherent.

Well... SSB64, SSBM, SSBB all work... why not an MMORPG?

I think Smash Bros. works only because it's a fighting game. It doesn't need to lend itself to be too seriously. If you cross different fanchises in an RPG-like setting, you'll have the crazy banana caper antics of Donkey Kong villians up against the seriousness of royal betrayals of the Fire Emblem series. It just wouldn't mesh or it would take core pieces of each franchise away to accomodate each other, which would mean fans of each franchise would all feel a bit let down.

Tag: Became a freaking mod and a complete douche, coincidentally, at the same time.

I'd prefer a Pokemon MMO as opposed to a multi-IP one. Development could then be based around one common theme instead of trying to be all things to all people and not really satisfying any.

I tend to agree with this. Also, it would bring me that much closer to realizing my boyhood dream!

Stranger things have happened. Is this a rumor, or is it an idea that you were wondering about? It could be fun, if executed properly.....

Well, every IP starts in its own world and the player can stay there if they want, but they have the option to check out other worlds too. the quests would all be different for the different worlds. So I am from Fire Emblem and I cross into Kirby's Dreamland for a while. The reaction from the natives would be funny to see. The quests could be fitting, like I help Kirby take down Dedede, again... or I could establish/visit a embassy setup for my world, perhaps they could have the proper quests for me. It is just an idea, and it might work in the imagination of players, but you may be right that it wouldn't work well in a game... Who knows?

Both an idea and a rumor (one I am trying to start...).
