24- This country was so strong you had to pick from 1 of 3 houses. Eventually "civil war" happens and you seize control like a certain famous general.
23- You have to run away from this gigantic fire giant, but eventually you will have to face him. Luckily you get enough time zapping people to get strong enough and then you have to make a choice in the end.
22- In this game even walking levels you up. Jumping too. You can choose from many weapons and magics to do whatever you want in this world. |
Hype!
24- Rome Total War
When I first played this game, I thought it was so cool to watch your fellow romans take control of cities while you pursued your own. I often started with Brutii, and had the privilege of taking the rich greek cities as ordered by the SPQR. On normal mode it was easy enough to take each city within the time limit, eventually getting strong enough to expand in multiple directions. After beating each enemy, it later became apparent that after their defeat you could play as them. The eventual civil wars are when things go down, but sadly on normal mode they are not too strong. I would crank up the difficulty in order for them to carve out a decent chunk of land so that they can actually rival me. And for extra hard mode, I liked to choose the Greek cities and fight everybody around me. It became increasingly fun as all 5 of my starting cities are besieged and with the little preparation I had only a few hoplites per city and no ranged. Luckily "strategy" wins here by stacking all the hoplites at the gate and waiting for the enemy to slaughter themselves upon your spears. In almost all scenarios Egypt makes for a decent enemy at the end, because when auto battling them, they always seem to win. Shoutout to the most random speeches some of the generals give.
23- Infamous 2
Superpower game before they were cool. Lightning is a very fun skill to use in a city with lots of water. Some of the battles were just epic, and all the cool tricks you could try to do, with the enemy being more varied as well. Sometimes you really felt like an overpowered mutant freak when lobbing out lighting powers over and over and recharging from every electrical thing nearby. The new ice and fire bonuses were also quite nice additions. Aside from the gameplay, the plot is also quite great. While you may feel powerful, there is the beast which seems unstoppable. And certain plot points reveal everything. In the end you have to make a choice, and it is very important and impactful in the game. The OST on top of all of this is one of the best I have ever heard, and it is not really in the style that I usually like.
22- The Elder Scrolls III Morrowind
If you like fantasy worlds and RPG gameplay then this is the perfect game for you. This game is massive, and doing anything in the game is making you stronger. A truly open world game, where after the tutorial you are set free to do whatever you want. You can challenge stronger people right away and die, or you can find a way to beat them. You can go to the big city or the wilderness. You can try your hand at the main story, side quests, or houses. Combat involves a lot of swinging and missing at first, but it is to be expected of an amateur like yourself. Once you get stronger a lowly rat won't even scratch you. There is a lot of text in this game, over a million words in fact, reading through the lore is part of the fun. Skills and attributes are entirely up to you and your gameplay, if you jumped a lot like me, then your acrobatics skill was naturally stronger. If you always walked to your destination, then your athletics skill will be higher. If you fought things a lot, then your weapon skills with that weapon will be higher. The magic of this game was lost with later entries due to streamlining the experience for the masses, but this will always be faithful representation of the fantasy RPG.
