Why? Well to have a proprietary device which only Sony sells instead of using off-the-shelf SSD - at premium prices, of course.

This, This and so much this. I love when I see people try to hype up this like its the 2nd coming of SSD tech. I guess all Sony's other proprietary tech was so much better than their counterpart UMD, Sony memory sticks, etc. This is just a way Sony can charge you god only knows how much for an SSD drive so you can't just go buy a cheaper SSD drive for your PS5. Well at least until someone makes an adapter like with the Vita memory cards.

The problem is no one is talking is a second coming of SSD tech, i also need to remind you that Sony has their own memory tech patent which is  Re -Dram it is better then stack memory tech the current SSD's has, although it's still more expenses then normal DRAM  .

Not all proprietary will be expensives, nor proprietary means you all need to pay for. Also my suggestion it's for expandable storage  that connected directly through some proprietary fast connector instead directly open to the PCi- bus on PC/ PS5 Motherboard. PS4 are easier because they are using SATA , a faster SSDs for PS5 required a NVme that directly connected to the Mobo. That will be difficult to non PC especially casual. That's why they came with this solution.

??? Did blu Ray expensives , Did DVD expensives . Not all the things made by Sony are expensive . Also why would they one to fuck their product . Also their newest statement said they want all PS4 player to move to PS5 as fast as possible, which is lead an affordable console's on mind.

They are not stupid, unless you have a weird opinion with Sony or Playstation as brand.

Blu Ray is not a Sony thing only. Panasonic, Pioneer, Phillips, and others were partners in developing it. Sony did not make DVD alone. Panasonic, Samsung, Toshiba. Phillips were all again partners. As a reminder, Panasonic also provided discs and drives to Nintendo systems. Sony has a history of its own proprietary storage that is more expensive or just not widely used. Beta Tapes. MiniDiscs. Memory Sticks and as for why Sony could screw over their own product? See UMDs and Vita Memory cards. The latter still costs several times more than a standard Micro SD card. $90 gets me a 400GB Micro SD Card. $80 bucks get me a 64GB Vita memory card. PS3 early on was very expensive partly because of the Blu Ray drive. At $600 it was the cheapest on the market. That is not cheap. PS2 with DVD cost $100 more than Dreamcast or Gamecube because of it.

The problem here, this proprietary SSDs is not a new tech nor different from every other SSD's  except some few minor improvement and additional connector . When you see other patent from Sony , they have some modification to make it even more faster and have it's own CPU to have faster reading. Probably it will be slightly more expensives, but i bet it will not be like Vita was where every gamer need to have one as mandatory . This proprietary  will help standardize the speed of SSD for PS5 because all games will be build based on SSD's ( unlike last gen where HDD is none factor). Game developer need to have one quality standard so every games will run the sames quality . Also Sony are likely to remove difficulty for PS gamer who are not found by opening PS to upgrade their Hard disc. Nvme or PC-i SSDs will be even harder to upgrade because they need direct connector to M.2 slot which is why they are making a solution for it.

I'm not saying Sony will no doubt make it more expensive. Just that given their history. I wouldn't put it past them.

"CURRENT MARKET " Sony said is faster then the current market SSD, which is true after all and i am always right

Nope. And you most certainly aren't.

Again, patents are patents.
Companies like to patent *everything* for several reasons...
1) Protects them from Patent Trolls.
2) Can be used to leverage cross-patent agreements.
3) Protect's potential future I.P if it does end up in a product.

It doesn't mean we are ever going to see said patent concept applied to a consumer level product, you would be surprised how many don't!

Just as easy with a PCI-E/nvme bus. Sony has fantastic engineers and can make an upgrade-able nvme drive easily enough.

Current SSD's have this. It's nothing special.
It's what the controller is.

Games aren't really built to the specifics of an individual drive, StarCitizen for instance is designed to be optimal on SSD's and the game experience will show, but that doesn't mean it's impossible to operate the game on a mechanical disk.

Digital Foundry did an analysis on it, you should check it out so you have more of an understanding of the implications SSD's in general bring to gaming.

They are a business, making cash on accessories has always been a good way to make some extra profits on a console.

Blu-Ray was a mass-market product and Sony wasn't the only one who produced those, it wasn't proprietary. In this case however, it would be proprietary, which in general means it will cost premium money just for the "privilege" to own them.

Then prove it , while i already prove many times

Patent is still patent it could be use or not is up to SONY , the fact Sony has it's already prove my point  . End of this discussion

Which is why they make this cartridge to make it accessible for casual gamer to expand their storage

Current SSD's have this. It's nothing special. It's what the controller is.

Then please explain why they can have 10 to 20 GB/Second read and write speed faster then "the  NVme  on market"

You can run on normal mechanical HDD  but the games is unplayable,  keep crashing in some PC and constant long loading time especially it open world and extreme large data stream and sharing on real time. And remember Star Citizen is just the beginning many game publisher will use SSD as standard , Photo geometry technics also require big data and assets  and SSD's are required for that.

Consoles will standardize it and games on PC will have SSDs as minimum requirement like it or not lower spec PC gamer will have to upgrade it.

I would be fine with a new portable that could play the same digital games PS5 do but at limited capacity, just would take a long time for me to buy it.

I know it wont happen but if they had an alternate Switch like experience... I might consider that. But no way I would get both devices.

It is possible but unlikely that they would offer a portable PS5. But sure having access to all PS5 games (porting would need to be something like automatic, once you make the game to PS5 it is almost no work to make it work on the portable, if not we know it won't have much games) on portable would get some customers.

Yea, a portable PS5 is simply not in the cards (and a lower end device could hold back future PS5 games), but a portable PS4 could become possible on the 5nm node and with highly improved battery tech. PS4 games would run without any fideling and PS5 games could be streamed via remote play or ps now.
