Well he seems like a cool guy, and I guess he played a prominent part in deciding to give Kojima the Decima engine, which sped up the production time of the game significantly.

I hope Shuhei wasn't forced to leave his position, but that he chose to take that role since it's better if everyone is passionate about their position.

This is one of the better moves I have seen Sony make lately.

Hermen at the head of WWS makes a lot of sense with his background at Guerrilla. Guerrilla has been one of the the driving forces at WWS since it was established in 2005. The team has delivered technology and techniques that have been shared across all of WWS. They have also given team members the oppertiunity to help and learn from studios inside and outside of WWS, making other games better, and expanding the knowledge base of the team. With Hermen in charge I can see a lot of potential for better management of team memebers, putting people in position to offer the most value for any given project across all of WWS.

Putting Shuhei in charge of Indie development is a perfect fit for him. He has always been a champion of unique experiences with things like Handhelds and VR. Having him working more closly to help bring more unquie, and higher quality indie titles to the PlayStation ecosystem will offer more fulfillment for him, and more value for PlayStation.

I have to give credit to Jim Ryan. This is great management.

“Hermen is a European who will be taking one of the major offices at PlayStation. I think everybody in Europe should be thrilled and happy and proud that that is happening."

Kinda an odd statement. Reads weird to me.

Anyhoo, hope this change works out for the best for both Guerrilla and PS.

Maybe the translation makes it odd sounding.

But I think the gist is that Europe has been the largest market for PS4 (I just looked at the numbers and it's been the largest market for Sony's consoles/handhelds since PS2 narrowly missing PS1 by around 2 million units). So Playstation is probably catering to them by putting a European in charge.

Meanwhile, Japan has been less concentrated on dedicated consoles and the mobile trend doesn't seem to be changing there.

Does Hermen Hulst like Legend of Dragoon? I hope so xD

I smell a summoning spell.

duduspace11 "Well, since we are estimating costs, Pokemon Red/Blue did cost Nintendo about $50m to make back in 1996"

He has better on stage presence than Shawn Layden..

Congrats!!

I am already imagining the next Marvel's Spider-Man game running on the Decima engine.

Oh. So good.

I think the engine in S-M was fine, and perhaps Decima wouldn't fit a very fast action.

I didn't love Horizon and I'm not into Killzone but I've always thought Herman Hulst was a cool guy, my only issue is that this makes me a bit worried for how Japan Studios will be treated now without Yoshida being in charge of all that.

I don't know if sceja was treated exceptionally well with Shu. Ithink many of their games needed a bigger budget, or just more ambition.

I do think it's an opportunity to let Decima be used as an engine for their realistic games.  But not necessary.

Does Sceja even like LoD???

Haha, hopefully.

I recall reading that Shu wanted to retire but then VR came along.  He seemed to love the tech. As long as he enjoys the new position.

I think Insomniac are fine with their current engine, and that SM2 will look incredible alongside Horizon 2.

Not gonna' lie, this was a very unexpected move... but I fully support it. Hermen Hulst seems like a pretty chill guy from the interviews I've seen, he also has great stage presence too, at least I find so anyway... as for Shu, it's a shame he's no longer head of WWS, but he's always been more interested in the more unique and quirky experiences on offer, so having him at the head of indie development seems like a perfect fit!

If Shu wanted to retire but found new passion on VR and steering Indies (possibly to improve VR more and more) then it is even more positive new.
