Forums - Sales Discussion - Famitsu Sales: W44, 2019 (Oct 28 - Nov 03)

Oh i'm not that worried, it's just in the long (middle) run i wonder if the sales will continue to be so bright with the datas we have. What concerns me more as a gamer is if the can hold a good pace of exlusive games releases. I mainly play on PS4 but i do play a lot more lattely on switch with the exclusives avalaible, and it's great since i'm not that fond of handheld systems, which proves that this console is very well banlanced.

PS4 solo, so very low despite P5R release. Really looks like that at least in Japan, the PS5 can't come early enough anymore.

Ring Fit Adventure

I want to buy it.

November 3 is the date Nintendo announced the Switch hit 10 million units sold in Japan, while Famitsu has it at 9.8 million.

200k sold on 2 days confirmed.

Still, impressive for Switch to hit 10m

My guess is now a 20-22m LTD.

Edit: woops, believe for a moment that the week ended on Nov 1st. Fail.

And what is PS5 going to do?

So yeah the PS5 release is probably gonna be the next time the Switch isn't the best selling console in these charts. But the question is how much is the PS5 gonna sale overall there since I believe sells for the PS4 are down from the PS3.

And what is PS5 going to do?

Hopefully for Sony sell better in Japan than the PS4 did, especially early on as the PS4's start in Japan was pretty much a disaster, being outsold by the Dreamcast and Wii U of all things in the same timeframe (first 6 or 9 month, can't remember which one)

PS4 is on it's way out, selling way less than 10k with such a big release is a pretty sad sight, especially since the PS5 is at least one year away.

Good luck with that.

I can only see PS5 doing worse in Japan than PS4.  Think back to 2013.  If a Japanese person wanted a home console, then what were they going to get?  Wii U sucked (and had a small library) and Japan never buys XBox.  That just leaves PS4.  It was the only viable option.

This time around Switch is a viable option.  Most weeks, when we see the top 30 chart for Japan, there are several games that get both a PS4 and Switch version.  Switch is now a viable option.  It is reasonable to expect that after PS5 releases, a lot of Japanese games will be PS5 and Switch or possibly Switch only.  Switch has already outsold PS4's 6 year total in about 2.5 years.  Switch is definitely the main platform for Japan.  There are going to be a lot of Japanese PS4 owners that will just buy a Switch and never consider the PS5.

In Japan PS5 is definitely going to decline compared to PS4.

PS4 is the second best selling home console of all time yet is going to be down from its predecessor in the region of Japan at this point it's clear that the region not only had a massive shift away from the home platforms but continues to do so regardless of the platform's power and output only way PS5 will do any better is if it's a hybrid or portable but then that levels the playing field in capability for a competitor already out who is already doing well and will have a massive sales lead. It's clear now the brand will mainly be one for the western market with Japan just contributing whatever it can.
