B-but... SmAsH iSn'T a FiGhTiNg GaMe!

Well deserved. Smash might not be a typical fighting game like Mario Kart not being a typical Racing game however the support, fan focused and quality of those titles are above and beyond anything there competitors can dish out.

SF2 deserved to hold the title for a long time. It basically created the fighting genre.

But here's the thing. I was never much of a fan of fighting games back in the 90's even though I loved going to the arcades. Street Fighter (or Mortal Kombat) just never did it for me. I did like the various Capcom Marvel games, but not nearly to the extent of Smash Bros. Smash Bros. just feels right. I never really thought I liked the competitive aspect of fighting games until Smash Bros. I just needed to find the right game.

Now, SSBU really takes the franchise to the next level. There are so many frikken characters and they keep making more. The new champ deserves the title.

This is what happens when you release a fighting game that is 95% complete on launch, and then support it with a light sprinkling of DLC characters. Other fighting franchises take note. Don't launch your fighting games with 30% of the roster locked behind "DLC"that conveniently arrives a month or two after launch. Don't launch your fighting game with "pre-order" bonus characters. Don't launch your fighting game with smartphone level in game purchases built in.

YEAH. Capcom needs more lessons. SF V battle with ARMS in sales is absurd. Only sell better because is multiplatform otherwise, the fiasco is worse.
